Is Love and Thunder the Last Thor Movie, or Will There Be a Thor 5?

We all know that Love and Thunder is the next installment in the Thor movie franchise, which has been going strong since 2011. That means that Thor will be the first MCU character that will have four movies bearing them as the stars, as Iron Man and Captain America both have three. Given that no other MCU character has reached four movies, what does this mean for a fifth movie? Is Love and Thunder the final Thor movie, or will there be a fifth one?

There are no updates regarding the future of the Thor franchise, as Taika Waititi himself has not ruled out the possibility of a fifth movie becoming a reality despite exhausting almost all of his ideas for the fourth. But what we do know is that Chris Hemsworth is set to appear in three more MCU movies as Thor.

Reaching four movies is an unprecedented feat for any MCU character, and that means it is hard to tell whether or not there will be a fifth movie in the books for Thor, especially considering that we are yet to see the ending of Love and Thunder. That said, let’s look at what we know about whether or not there will be a Thor 5 movie coming in the future.

Will Jane Foster Replace Thor?

The upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder is set to become the fourth movie of the Thor movie series under the banner of the MCU, and that means that this is the first time we will see an MCU character getting a fourth movie that features them. And this can be attributed to the fact that Thor is one of the most bankable characters in the MCU due to his combination of charisma and comedic touch.

While not a lot of things have been revealed about Love and Thunder’s plot, what we do know is that this movie will see the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, who was last seen in Thor: The Dark World in 2013. And one of the things that we have seen in the latest trailer is that Jane Foster will be donning Thor’s cape as the new wielder of Mjolnir.

With Jane Foster earning a bigger role in the Thor movie franchise and is no longer just a damsel in distress that Thor needs to rescue, this allows us to wonder what the future holds for the longtime god of thunder.

Thor is hinted to be on an adventure during the events of Love and Thunder, especially after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where he hinted that he was going to be traveling the universe with the Guardians of the Galaxy. He also ceded the leadership over New Asgard to Valkyrie, who has been the one leading the Asgardians ever since Thor failed to kill Thanos in the events of Infinity War. 

But Love and Thunder also allows us to see Thor returning to his duty as an active protector of the weak and is no longer just someone who is on vacation. Nevertheless, is Jane Foster set to replace him in the future?

It is unknown what the future holds for both Thor and Jane, given the fact that we are yet to see how the upcoming Love and Thunder’s events unfold. We can make the assumption that Jane, after realizing she could use Mjolnir, probably took over some of Thor’s duties as the protector of the nine realms. This could mean that there is a good chance that she is the new Thor, as far as her duties are concerned but maybe not to the extent that she would actually replace Thor as the new face of the movie franchise.

Is There Going To Be A Thor 5?

At this point, we are not aware of how Thor: Love and Thunder will unfold or what will happen to both Thor and Jane in the upcoming movie. This makes it difficult for anyone to think about what is next in store for the god of thunder, given that his ultimate fate in his next movie is something that’s still up in the air. In that regard, will there be a Thor 5 after Love and Thunder?

The possibility of a fifth Thor movie hasn’t been ruled out by Taika Waititi, who has been at the helm of the Thor movies as the director ever since the massive success of Ragnarok. He did mention that he and his team exhausted almost all of their ideas for Love and Thunder, and that’s why he is excited about showing off all of the things that his brain was able to muster up during the production of the movie.

But while Waititi hasn’t confirmed the possibility of a fifth Thor movie, he hasn’t ruled it out either. That means that, based on the events of the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder movie, there is still a good chance that there will be enough room for both Thor and Jane to appear in another Thor movie.

Still, the chances of a fifth movie rest on the shoulders of Taika Waititi and whether or not he still has some creative ideas that can make the movie a success as far as his standards are concerned. It might take a while for him to replenish all of the creative juices he poured into the production of Love and Thunder, but we do hope that he does think of ideas that are good and expansive enough for a fifth Thor movie.

Will Chris Hemsworth Return After Love And Thunder?

One of the things that people have been using over the past decade to confirm whether or not a new movie about a certain character was in the books is to check the actor’s contract with Marvel. For example, it was hinted that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were going to close the books on their MCU characters in Endgame when it was discovered that they no longer had any more movies left in their contracts.

When both Downey Jr. and Evans left with their characters, Chris Hemsworth became the last of the big three of the original MCU characters. So, what is his fate after Love and Thunder? Will Chris Hemsworth return after the fourth Thor movie?

The good news is that Chris Hemsworth, just a few months ago, signed a new contract with Marvel. This contract states that he is going to appear in three more MCU movies after Thor: Love and Thunder. As such, we are going to see him appearing in more MCU movies in the future, regardless of what the future holds for the Thor franchise.

It could be possible that one or two of those three movies are part of the Thor movie franchise. But the most likely case is that at least one of those movies will form part of a bigger collaborative movie that is similar to the scope of the Avengers film, given that Phase Four of the MCU needs a big movie that would wrap it all up and leave the door open for the next phase. In that regard, Chris Hemsworth might return as Thor in a movie that should wrap up Phase Four.
