We know that the entire storyline of Star Wars keeps on expanding because Disney is putting a lot of marble into this intellectual property. In that regard, we will be getting a new series called Young Jedi Adventures, which should be a series that will appeal to children instead of the older and more mature audiences that have been able to enjoy the more recent Star Wars releases. But while we know that most of the Star Wars shows released in recent years are canon to the entire lore, what about Young Jedi Adventures? Is Young Jedi Adventures canon?
There is yet to be any news regarding whether or not Young Jedi Adventures is canon to the Star Wars storyline. The fact that it is set in the High Republic, which takes place hundreds of years before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, makes it difficult to determine whether it is canon or not.
The creators of Young Jedi Adventures sure made the right decision to make the series a High Republic storyline, as it won’t risk clashing with the events of the more recent timelines in Star Wars. In that regard, this allows it to have the rare status of a series that may or may not be canon. Now, let’s talk more about Young Jedi Adventures.
What Is Young Jedi Adventures All About?
We know that there have been a lot of different Star Wars movies and shows that have been released ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm. That’s because Disney is looking to make the most out of one of the most popular intellectual properties of all time while also expanding the lore of Star Wars. That is why there is plenty of different Star Wars series that you can watch on Disney+.
However, Lucasfilm is looking to expand more on the Star Wars lore by introducing a new series that will resonate more with younger audiences instead of the mature ones that love shows like The Mandalorian and Andor. We are talking about Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, which is an animated series that’s going to be released on Disney+ on May 4, 2023, which is widely known as Star Wars Day among different fans of this fictional universe. But what is Young Jedi Adventures all about?
Young Jedi Adventures, which already has short videos released on the Disney Junior YouTube channel to introduce the characters, is a full-length animated Star Wars series that follows young Jedi characters still in the middle of their early years as Jedi younglings. That means that the series was created for preschool and early-grade school children and is a show that is great for the family. This also means that Young Jedi Adventures is a great way for families to introduce their children to the Star Wars world.
The storyline will follow a group of younglings still in the middle of training and being taught in the ways of the Force by Jedi Master Yoda. But the most surprising part about this series is that it is set during the time of the High Republic, which is the era when the galaxy was at its most prosperous and when the Jedi Order had almost no problems at all. The High Republic is often depicted as a period that happened hundreds of years before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
This means that Young Jedi Adventures took place long before Anakin Skywalker and the other prominent Jedi of the Skywalker Saga were even introduced. It is set centuries before the first chronological Star Wars movie and takes place when the Jedi were at the height of their abilities.
As such, the galaxy was comparatively peaceful at that time, as no Sith Lords were looking to destroy the Jedi Order while taking over the entire galaxy. There were also no galaxy-wide wars at that time. This makes the High Republic era the perfect era for a series that follows younglings and is targeted toward younger audiences.
Will Young Jedi Adventures Be Canon?
Most of the Star Wars shore released on Disney+ right after the Disney acquisition are considered canon. Of course, Star Wars: Visions has always been non-canon, and it is understandable why it isn’t canon. So, what about Young Jedi Adventures? Is it canon?
At this point, we can’t say whether or not Young Jedi Adventures is canon because it takes place during an era that hasn’t been touched a lot by Star Wars, except for the High Republic books. We know that Young Jedi Adventures takes place during the High Republic. And because we don’t know much about what happened during the time of the High Republic except for the things that the books covered, we can’t say whether or not the events of Young Jedi Adventures are canon.
Lucasfilm is yet to say something about the status of Young Jedi Adventures. Of course, because the storyline isn’t quite as farfetched as the ones that happened in Visions, the events of Young Jedi Adventures may be canon.
At this point, we don’t have any information regarding the status of this series and where it can be found in the lore of Star Wars. But the best thing about the decision of the creator to put the series in the middle of the era of the High Republic is that its status as a canon (or not) story can be left open to the viewers’ interpretation.
As such, because Young Jedi Adventures is unlikely to touch on the events of the Skywalker Saga, which takes place centuries after this series, there’s a good chance that it is canon and won’t mess up with the already established canon and lore in Star Wars.
