M. Night Shyamalan is gearing up for his next big project, and this time, he’s teaming up with a best-selling author. The filmmaker has joined forces with Nicholas Sparks to create a supernatural romance thriller, with Jake Gyllenhaal set to take the lead role.

Shyamalan and Sparks are each crafting their own version of the story—Shyamalan writing the screenplay while Sparks develops a novel based on the same idea.

This marks a new kind of collaboration for Shyamalan, who is known for writing and directing his own original material. While he previously adapted Paul Tremblay’s novel The Cabin at the End of the World into Knock at the Cabin, this time he’s working alongside another storyteller from the start.

The film will be produced by Shyamalan’s Blinding Edge Pictures, along with Sparks’ longtime collaborator Theresa Park and producer Marc Bienstock. Sparks will also serve as executive producer. While no studio is officially attached yet, discussions are reportedly underway with Warner Bros. for a theatrical release.

Gyllenhaal continues to build momentum with major projects. He recently starred in Road House, a modern take on the action classic that became a streaming hit on Prime Video. He also led the Apple TV+ series Presumed Innocent, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

Next, he’s set to take the stage alongside Denzel Washington in a Broadway production of Othello and will appear in upcoming films like The Bride!, directed by his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Shyamalan has been a major force in Hollywood for nearly two decades, with films collectively earning over $3 billion worldwide. His latest thriller, Trap, starring Josh Hartnett, was another summer success.

Meanwhile, Sparks remains one of the world’s most well-known novelists, with over 130 million copies of his books sold worldwide. His most recent release, Counting Miracles, debuted at #1 on the New York Times best-seller list and is being adapted into a film by Amazon.

With Shyamalan’s signature suspenseful storytelling, Sparks’ emotional depth, and Gyllenhaal’s star power, this project is shaping up to be one to watch. What do you think about this collaboration? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
