Jonathan Majors’ film Magazine Dreams has received positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an impressive 82% rating based on 95 reviews. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision.

The film focuses on “a man looks after his ailing grandfather while trying to make it in the world of professional bodybuilding.

Alongside Majors, the movie also features Haley Bennett as Jessie, Taylour Paige as Pink Coat, Mike O’Hearn as Brad Vanderhorn, Harrison Page as William Lattimore, Harriet Sansom Harris as Killian’s counselor, Bradley Stryker as Ken Donaghue, Dan Donahue as Dr. Prescott, Craig Cackowski as a bodybuilding contest judge, Andrea Figliomeni as a waitress, and David Maurice Johnson as the Head Judge of the regional bodybuilding competition.

Critics have praised Majors’ performance, noting his dedication to the role. One review mentioned that his ‘incredibly committed performance makes Magazine Dreams well worth a watch.’

However, as you know, Majors’ career faced challenges due to legal issues. In December 2023, he was convicted on two counts: reckless assault and harassment. The judge set his sentencing for February 6, 2024, and issued a new order of protection, barring him from any contact with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. He faced up to a year in prison.

His career went down the drain, but the situation has since been taken care of, as it seems, and Majors is once again trying to come back to the industry. With some of these reviews, it seems that he has done the right thing:

Even as the pacing falters, Majors is impossible to look away from: a man who desperately needs the world to see him — and if they refuse, to feel his pain.

– Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly

This is perhaps the big performance fans of Majors have been waiting for since the Yale Drama grad first splashed onto the scene a few years ago. It’s a towering act of becoming.

– Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair

A tour de force in a flawed but impressive vehicle.
