Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie to Reach a Milestone of 1 Million Sold Tickets for the Premiere in Japan

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie was finally released for a Japan premiere on December 24th, as previously scheduled and announced by the movie creators. The first night of the premiere saw 15,000 fans watching the screenings at midnight. The tickets were sold out before the premiere across seven cities in Japan, and based on the preliminary results shared by Toho cinema, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is looking to achieve a milestone of 1 million sold tickets for the premiere.

Based on the first night of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 premiere, the movie should reach a threshold of over 10 billion yen, which is around 87 million US dollars. Aside from the premiere at midnight, the movie is being screened in the morning and afternoon, topping the Japanese box office.

Judging by the reviews and the number of tickets being sold, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie may come close to the success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which had its premiere in Japan in October 2020. Demon Slayer had recently become one of the top movies on the annual Oricon’s DVD chart and the only anime movie to top the charts in the last 12 years.

In 2021, only one anime movie managed to surpass the 10-billion-yen milestone, Evangelion: Thrice Upon a Time. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie will be distributed across 418 theatres in Japan. The movie was first announced at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen season one, following a prequel story about Yuto Okkotsu and his curse with one of the favorite characters from Jujutsu Kaisen season one appearing in the movie, Gojo.
