Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Confessed Watching the Movie Premiere with Fans

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie made it to the top list of 100 top-grossing films of all time according to the Japanese box office during the three weeks of screenings in Japan. The movie was screened across 418 theatres in the country, with no exact date set for the premiere in the West. The western audience will have to wait for the movie to officially hit international theatres. Until then, we can enjoy fun facts and sneak peek previews of the movie, along with impressions of the Japanese fandom.

Nearly 6 million tickets were sold, while the first 5 million fans were gifted special booklets with unpublished 9 pages of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the prequel to the story that we had a chance to see in the first season of the renowned Shonen anime series. Gege Akutami, mangaka and the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen recently confessed sneaking into a theatre to watch the movie with his fans. The fandom didn’t know that the creator himself snuck into the theatre for the premiere of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, while many fans don’t even know how Akutami looks.

Akutami shared his confession, stating that he went to see the movie on the first day of the premiere, on December 24th, also adding that he watched the opening comments as well. Japan is notorious for its idea of almost extreme privacy, so mangakas are often encouraged to “hide” from the wake public eye, which is why probably no one in the audience realized that the creator of the movie was seeing Jujutsu Kaisen 0 with them. Did mangaka Akutami also receive his complimentary booklet – most probably yes, as he was among the first to see the movie.

The movie follows the story of Yuuta Okkotsu, a troubled young man who is suffering from a major problem that he can’t seem to handle by himself – his childhood friend, Rika, is haunting him as a cursed spirit ever since she died in an accident.
