‘Kai-hen Wizards’ Manga to Go on Hiatus Until Spring
Yellow Tanabe, known for creating the popular Kekkaishi manga, will see her latest work, Kai-hen Wizards (Kaihen no Mahōtsukai), take a brief hiatus. Starting from the seventh issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday on January 15, the manga will go on hiatus, with plans to return this spring, the publisher officially confirmed.
Kai-hen Wizards only began its journey in the magazine last year, on September 11. Despite its short run so far, the series has captured attention, and Shogakukan is set to release the first compiled volume of the manga on February 18.
For those who prefer English, Viz offers a simulpub version. The story follows a young boy whose dangerous magical abilities force him into exile to prevent the destruction of the world.
Tanabe has a rich history with Weekly Shonen Sunday. She first made a name for herself with Kekkaishi, which started in 2003 and wrapped up after eight successful years in 2011. This series even inspired an anime adaptation that aired between 2006 and 2008. The anime was first released on DVD by Viz Media in 2011, and later, Discotek Media brought it out on Blu-ray in June 2022.
Following Kekkaishi, Tanabe launched another series, Birdmen, in July 2013, which concluded in February 2020. This steady track record of compelling stories has made her a notable figure in the manga world, and her fans are eager to see what happens next with Kai-hen Wizards after its brief pause.
With her past success and a promising new series underway, Tanabe continues to leave her mark on the manga industry. We’ll be watching closely as Kai-hen Wizards returns this spring to pick up where it left off.
