'Kaiju No. 8' Is Finally Here, and We Know How Many Episodes Season 1 Will Have!

Kaiju No. 8 is finally here! The highly-anticipated anime adaptation of the popular manga has finally arrived, and fans are thrilled with the series and are already calling for a second season, despite the fact that we’ve just seen one episode so far. Based on the manga written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, the Kaiju No. 8 anime is adapting the manga series that has been ongoing since 2020, with 11 volumes as of the time of writing. The series, as a whole, has been extremely popular and is currently one of the hottest shonen titles, which explains why anime is so popular as well. And while we are waiting for next week’s episode, we have found out just how many episodes the current season is going to have!

This information has been confirmed officially by the producers behind the series both on the official site, as well as on Twitter (now X), based on the Blu-ray releases. This is standard practice in the anime industry.

The Tweet in question tells us the following (and it also leads you to the official page, where you can check out all four Blu-ray covers and episodes collected on each of the editions):

As you can see, there are going to be four Blu-ray editions with three episodes each, which means that the first season of Kaiju No. 8 is going to have a total of 12 episodes, which is the standard length of a season these days. Seeing how popular the series is, the chances of a renewal are pretty high.

In case you have not read our earlier reports on the series, Kaiju No. 8 is directed by Shigeyuki Miya, while the series composition and scripts are handled by Ichiro Okouchi, character designs and chief animation direction by Tetsuya Nishio, kaiju design by Mahiro Maeda, art direction by Shinji Kimura, and the music is composed by Yuta Bandoh. The original Japanese voice cast includes:

  • Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino
  • Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro
  • Wataru Katou as Reno Ichikawa
  • Fairouz Ai as Kikoru Shinomiya
  • Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina

The series is made available internationally thanks to Crunchyroll, which will be streaming the episodes globally as soon as they arrive in Japan. This is the official synopsis of the series:

In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways. While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno’s determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.

There is absolutely no doubt that Kaiju No 8. is slated to become one of the biggest titles of the Spring 2024 season, so we can confirm that we are going to follow up on all the news and updates related to the show, which is why you should keep following us.
