‘Kingdom Hearts 4’: 1,000 Days of Silence
It’s been a long wait since Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts 4 on April 10, 2022, during the series’ 20th anniversary event. As of today, we’ve reached the 1,000-day mark without any new trailers or significant updates.
This extended silence is notable, especially when compared to previous releases. For instance, there were 735 days between the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3 at E3 2013 and its re-reveal at E3 2015. In contrast, Kingdom Hearts 4 has surpassed this period by nearly 300 days, highlighting the prolonged anticipation.
Despite the lack of new footage, series creator Tetsuya Nomura has shared some insights. He mentioned that Kingdom Hearts 4 will serve as a ‘story reset,’ potentially making it more accessible to newcomers while still engaging long-time players. Additionally, Nomura hinted that this installment might be leading towards the conclusion of the entire Kingdom Hearts saga.
While the wait has been challenging, it’s not entirely unprecedented for the series. Kingdom Hearts fans have historically endured long gaps between major releases, often filled with spin-offs and side stories. However, the complete absence of new footage or concrete information for such an extended period is unusual, even by these standards.
In the meantime, Square Enix has been focusing on other projects. For example, the mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing Link was announced but has also experienced delays, with official communications acknowledging the setbacks. This has left many of us wondering about the current state of the franchise and the development progress of its upcoming titles.
The milestone of 1,000 days without substantial updates has sparked discussions within the community. Some speculate that development challenges or strategic decisions might be causing the delays. Others remain hopeful that the extended development time will result in a more polished and fulfilling gaming experience upon release.
As we continue to wait, the anticipation for Kingdom Hearts 4 grows. The hope is that the next time we hear from Square Enix, it will be with significant news that justifies the prolonged silence. Until then, we can only speculate and revisit previous entries in the series to keep the excitement alive.
