We are roughly three weeks away from the December 13, 2024 premiere of Kraven the Hunter, the next villain-themed installment of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). The Venom trilogy, which was, for better or worse, the pillar of the SSU, came to an end this year, but the SSU is continuing with new projects, and this is the next one we are going to see.

Early reviews suggest that Kraven the Hunter is an improvement over the final Venom film, though it still falls short of being a masterpiece. Based on the trailer, and with British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson—who could be the next James Bond—leading the cast, it’s clear the movie has solid potential.

Still, seeing how it is going to be released during the holiday season, Kraven the Hunter might be facing tough competition as well as a general lack of interest by the fans, seeing how the early box office projections look abysmal for the movie, as you are about to see.

As you know, relevant sources often make box office projections based on pre-sale data, as well as some other parameters.

To be honest, they don’t have to be correct, but in most cases, the early projections are never far off. So, if a movie is projected to make $30 million, it probably won’t make $250 million during the opening weekend, but around $30 million; yes, these projections tend to be correct.

And while Sony was hoping that Kraven could be the SSU’s next Venom, it seems that he will most likely become the next Morbius, or even worse, the next Madame Web, if these numbers turn out to be spot on:

As you can see, the movie is projected to make around $20-25 million, which is an abysmal projection for such a large-scale action movie, especially when you consider the $130 million budget involved. But, in order to make things even more interesting, let us compare the movie to the SSU’s previous releases:

We have highlighted the column you need to watch out for. As you can see, Kraven the Hunter is projected for the second-worst domestic opening of all SSU movies, surpassing only Madame Web, a movie that almost everyone considers to be a flop.

But while surpassing Madame Web shouldn’t be that hard, a projected opening that is half the number of Morbius… well, that is a bit below expectations, isn’t it?

Especially if you consider that the budget for Kraven is the biggest of all the SSU movies, which is certainly interesting to note. We just hope that the movie does better than the claims made by the early projections.
