Luffy’s Voice Actress Claims One Piece Anime Show Could Go On for 8 Years

Luffy’s voice actress, Mayumi Tanaka revealed for a Japanese portal Asahi that One Piece anime show could go on for seven to eight years. One Piece recently reached two important milestones in 2021 as the popular series penned by Eiichiro Oda achieved a 1,000th episode and a 1,000th manga chapter. Mayumi Tanaka, a 66-year-old voice actress behind the voice of Luffy even shared who would be jumping in to take over her role as Luffy in case something happens to her.

The actress spoke about her role and One Piece anime show, stating that she is not sure how the show will end, but she expects it to be wrapped up in less than 10 years, giving the show an approximate run of 7 to 8 years. The show already has 1,000 episodes after being aired for over 20 years. The current number of episodes is 1004 in the first week of January 2022 while the show was first premiered in 1999, two years after the manga was published.

The voice actress also said that she hopes to live long enough to reveal what is the big treasure in One Piece, hoping that the treasure is actually friendship. Mayumi Tanaka also said in the interview that the actress behind the voice of Goku will be replacing her as the voice behind Luffy in case anything happens to her before the show is over. In case Mayumi Tanaka wouldn’t be able to continue with the show in the next 7 to 8 years, Masako Nozawa would replace her as Luffy.
