Made in Abyss Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast and More
Akihito Tsukushi’s Made in Abyss is a very interesting dark fantasy adventure manga that has, understandably, captured the hearts and the attention of fans around the world. The manga has been around since 2012 and its unique world and characters are something that makes it stand out among other similar shows. Now, Made in Abyss has also been adapted into an anime series and we are bringing you all the information on season 2 of Made in Abyss, which is set to premiere in 2022.
A second season of Made in Abyss has been officially confirmed and is set to premiere in July 2022, although the exact date has not yet been revealed. It will be titled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun and was initially announced after the third movie, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul.
Luckily for everyone, Made in Abyss has been officially renewed for a second season and it is going to premiere very soon. We are going to bring you all the relevant information on the second season, i.e., everything we know about the show’s release, trailer, plot, and cast.
Will Made in Abyss get a season 2?
Back in January 2020, after the third movie, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, came out, the following video came out:
The video was actually an official announcement of a sequel to the above-mentioned movie, although initially, it was not clear whether the sequel was going to be a new series or a new movie. Soon afterwards, it was confirmed that the sequel was, indeed, going to be a TV series titled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun.
Above is the official poster for the second anime season of Made in Abyss.
Made in Abyss season 2 release date
In May 2020, it was officially confirmed that the second season of Made in Abyss will premiere sometime during 2022. Initially, we still did not have a precise release date, and knowing how the market works, we said that it won’t probably be before the Spring 2022 anime season, possibly even later during the year.
This was likewise confirmed by the show’s official Twitter account, which also announced an official online fan meeting in November 2021, which is when we might get some more information on the second season of the show. And while the fan meeting did not reveal any new information, our initial assumption proved to be correct.
On April 1, 2022 (and no, this is not a joker), a new visual (see above) was released, as well as the official release date for the second season of Made in Abyss. It was confirmed that Made in Abyss Season 2 would officially premiere in July 2022. The exact date has not been revealed, but this is standard practice in the world of anime.
Made in Abyss season 2 trailer
An official trailer for the show’s second season has not been released yet, but we do have the subtitled version of the above-linked preview video:
As the show is still some time away from its premiere, we’ll have to wait a bit for an official trailer, but as far as fans are concerned, we think everyone will be happy with just this for the time being since it’s an official teaser. But, in May 2022, an official trailer was released, showing us what we can expect from the upcoming season. You can check it out yourself:
Made in Abyss season 2 plot
Based on the title of the second season, we assume – although this has yet to be confirmed – that the second season will focus primarily on “The Golden City” story from chapter 49, which forms part of the larger Ganja Arc, which will also probably get adapted in this season.
In this chapter, Ganja reaches the 6th Layer, where they immediately encounter a group of interference units which, unlike Gaburoon, are human-sized. Interference units are able to understand them, but not to communicate.
Ganja thinks the group is trustworthy and follows them. Soon after, an unknown creature grabs one of the interference units and the group decides to retreat to safety. After tripping over a herd of them, Ganja restrains the interference units.
The interference units apologize for compromising them with fluid human language, much to Ganja’s surprise. Interference units acquired their language by observing them and predicting their language. Ganja decides to trust them and removes the links that were placed on them.
After finding out about the effects of attempting to ascend from the 6th layer and being content with the fact they are would not be returning to the surface, Ganja decides to set up a permanent camp exactly where they are. Ganja then asks the Interference Units to locate sources of drinkable water for them.
Ganja must therefore personally inspect the premises. The five suggested locations are teeming with dangerous beasts, one is contaminated with mining debris, the other has insurmountable hot water and only the last is considered safe. Then the group acclimates to life in the 6th layer.
Vueko gets closer to her guide Irumyuui as she quickly learns Vueko’s language. Irumyuui reveals to Vueko that she was considered a cursed child in her tribe because she was barren and therefore should be a sacrifice for the abyss rather than a guide for the ganja.
Vueko, who has suffered a similar fate in the past, sympathizes with Irumyuui and develops a maternal bond with her. Irumyuui later adopts a hermit rat who was found in a hat. Unfortunately, he is caught by a predator during their time together. After a while, Vueko wakes up to find that Irumyuui has developed diarrhea.
When she examines her feces, she notices transparent insect eggs. Your attention is then required because one of the toes of the member has melted and hardened like lead so that the mass has spread among the ganja.
There isn’t enough water to treat all the patients, so Belaf, Ajapoka, and a few other members come out to get it. The group that left the camp arrives at the water point. Belaf has doubts about the water and asks Ajapoka to get a rock sample at the bottom of the lake.
Then he realizes that these are not rocks, but the hardened remains of a huge creature. Not knowing any other possible source of drinking water, they decide to bring water from the hole and warn the rest of the ganja of its true properties.
Meanwhile, the forage group returns with heavy losses, counting only three members who die shortly after their arrival; they turned into tree-like beings. Wazukyan shows Vueko an egg-shaped relic in a party member’s pocket and asks if she knows what it is.
Vueko does not know his objective and Wazukyan wonders if the interference units would know. This is a synopsis of “The Golden City” story from the original manga and we assume that the second season will adapt these events and the ones that immediately followed in the story.
As a brief reminder, the Made in Abyss series centers on Riko, a young orphan who lives in the city of Orth, on an island in the Beoluska Sea. The city surrounds a strange giant hole whose bottom goes deep into the earth. This hole is known as the Abyss.
Inside the Abyss are mysterious abandoned artifacts and remains of an advanced civilization that disappeared millennia ago and is, therefore, a site explored by bounty hunter excavators called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descents to obtain all the relics they can find.
In addition to the monstrous fauna and flora, the Cave Raiders must face a great evil that affects them the deeper they descend into the Abyss, where a succession of layers exert pressure that afflicts them and progressively makes them fatally ill.
This evil is known as the Curse of the Abyss, and few excavators have descended to the deepest regions and returned to tell the tale. Riko’s goal is to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a legendary Cave Raider (who are known as White Whistles) and thus solve the mysteries of the Abyss.
One day while exploring the caves she is attacked by a beast of the Abyss fauna, being saved by a robot with the appearance of a human boy whom she calls Reg. The two of them would embark on many adventures together in the strange world they are living in.
This is a complete guide to what you can expect from Made in Abyss, both the whole show and its upcoming second season. Seeing how wonderfully unique and magical the show is, we assume that you’ll really like the show if you’re new to it and if you’re an old fan, you’ll probably adore it even more once new stories come out.
Aside from the first season, you can also check out the three feature films that have come out so far.
