Manga Confirms that Yuji and Sukuna Are, Indeed, Related – Here’s How!
Sukuna is, alongside Kenjaku, the biggest villain in Jujutsu Kaisen and the most dangerous character in the whole series. Due to his immense importance, Sukuna has, despite being a villain, collected a solid amount of fans and there have been many theories related to him and his relation to the series’ protagonist, Yuji Itadori. We have already written about some theories about the relationship between Sukuna and Yuji, with some even claiming that they are one and the same, but the most recent Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 257 seemingly reveals the true connection between these two characters.
The character is officially out on Sunday, but the leaks are out – as we have reported – and we have finally received an update to Itadori’s family tree, an update that fills in a lot of the blanks and provides us with some details that we had suspected, but did not know until this point.
Before we continue, here is a very practical Tweet that explains the most recent updates related to Yuji and his family tree:
This is basically all that we know with Chapter 257, as the manga has now filled in all the blanks. For a while now, we have known that Yuji was related to Kenjaku, thanks to the fact that Kenjaku had been in possession of the body of Kaori Itadori, Yuji’s late mother. Since Kenjaku was also Noritoshi Kamo at the time Choso and his brothers were born, Itadori and Choso are also related via Kenjaku. But this is something that has been known for a while now, and while it was only recently confirmed in the anime, it was not a surprise.
But, the story of Yuji’s father, Jin Itadori, has been a big enigma for a while, with many fans speculating about who Jin actually is. Akutami has now revealed a lot in Chapter 257 and we finally know what Jin Itadori’s role in the story is.
Namely, in Chapter 257, there is a flashback that shows a discussion between Sukuna and Uraume about the past; based on everything, this is by far the most interesting part of Chapter 257, which was more or less a standard chapter. Namely, in it, Sukuna reveals more information about his past and that he had a twin brother whose soul he devoured in the womb. The soul was, of course, reincarnated at a later point, and from what we could understand from the translations, it was reincarnated into Jin Itadori, Yuji’s father, which would make Sukuna his uncle!
So, Jin Itadori… or, to be more precise, the soul of Jin Itadori, is actually the reincarnated soul of Sukuna’s own twin brother, which means that Sukuna and Yuji are, indeed, related as many fans assumed, as Sukuna is confirmed to be Yuji Itadori’s uncle. This is certainly going to influence the plot going forward, so be sure to keep following us for all the updates!
