Marvel Contemplates Bringing Back Original ‘Avengers’ Cast
Marvel Studios is thinking about a blast from the past. According to Variety, they’re mulling over the idea of reuniting the original Avengers team for a new film. This means fans might once again see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, even though both characters met their ends in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’
Now, anyone who’s ever dabbled in comic books will tell you that character deaths aren’t always set in stone. The Marvel universe is known for bringing back characters through various twists and turns. The recent introduction of the multiverse in the MCU, especially in the Loki series, has made such resurrections even more plausible.
However, there’s more than just the story to consider. Bringing back big names like Downey Jr. and Johansson won’t be cheap. To put things into perspective, Downey Jr. was paid a hefty sum of around $25 million for “Iron Man 3”. And let’s not forget that Marvel’s recent box office numbers have been a bit shaky, which might make them reconsider high budgets.
While the studio is certainly weighing the benefits and risks, fans worldwide would likely be thrilled. The original Avengers, including Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Hemsworth, along with Downey Jr. and Johansson, have a special place in many hearts. Their chemistry and the magic they brought to the screen in 2012 played a pivotal role in shaping the MCU we know and love today.
Although this reunion would be a nostalgic treat for fans, there’s one big question – would the actors be up for it? Johansson herself mentioned on Gwyneth Paltrow’s podcast that her Marvel chapter felt closed. Downey Jr., when quizzed about reprising his Iron Man role, humorously suggested Tom Cruise might be a better fit.
In the coming years, we’ve got a couple of Avengers films to look forward to. “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is set to drop in 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” will follow in 2027. Whether or not the original team will make a comeback in these or other films remains uncertain.
But if there’s anything the MCU has taught us, it’s to expect the unexpected. Whether the original six reunite or not, Marvel’s future sure looks exciting. And if they do come back together? Well, that’d be the cherry on top of a super-powered cake.
