When Ultron first appeared in the MCU, he was one of the most complex and toughest enemies that the Avengers had faced up to that point.
While his agenda was much different than that of some of the other villains, and despite the fact that he was featured in just one movie (unlike Thanos or Loki, for example), the character has nevertheless become a fan-favorite.
Ultron is gone at the moment – since his debut, alternative versions of the character have appeared in Disney+ animated series What If…? and the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – but we know that he will be making a comeback in the upcoming Vision Quest series.
Now, we still don’t know how and in what capacity Ultron is going to be back in the series (we know that James Spader will reprise his role), but a recent Marvel comic series has given the MCU a brilliant way to bring the villain back and in a very interesting manner, to be frank!
If you’re a Marvel fan, you probably know that a new comic book series has just started with today’s release of the West Coast Avengers #1 comic book.
Coming from the creative team of Gerry Duggan, Danny Kim, Arthur Hesli, and VC’s Joe Caramagna, the comic book series is sure to provide us with a lot of interesting moments, as its first issue has already caused a lot of interest among the fans. Here is the synopsis:
ULTRON RETURNS…REDEEMED? Iron Man and War Machine have put together a new team of Avengers – one that includes villains seeking a path to redemption. Their case study? Ultron – who, against all odds, seems to be walking the straight and narrow…for now. But does the success of one guarantee the success of all? Spider-Woman and Firestar have their doubts. And can any amount of heroics really absolve Ultron of his past?
The first sentence is already quite interesting, as Ultron is back and it seems that he is in many ways different than the evil robot we had seen in the earlier storylines.
While the comic books are going to do their own thing, with the character once again being a hot topic among MCU fans, we think that the MCU writers could actually take something from this interesting storyline.
We won’t be spoiling much, but as you know, Ultron will be back for Vision Quest, and it seems that we will actually see the original version of the character from Avengers: Age of Ultron, and not an alternative version like in the above-mentioned projects.
While we don’t know what role Ultron will play in the Vision-centered series nor how Marvel is planning on bringing him back to the main timeline, the comic book provides an interesting take that might actually help the MCU writers to come up with an interesting story.
Of course, with Ultron being potentially redeemed – although the comic book does not imply we’re actually dealing with a “good guy Ultron” – we could potentially see him fight alongside the heroes against Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers movies, which opens up a lot of interesting possibilities. Having said this, we are definitely going to keep you updated, so be sure to keep following us!
