Getting to know your favorite fictional characters is always great. In this report, we are going to discuss a recent comic book revelation about Captain America, who is one of the most popular comic book characters of all time. Marvel’s superhero is an exceptionally important part of comic book history, and it is definitely fun to learn more about him.
A recent comic book, Captain America #14 revealed Cap’s favorite piece of music, and we are going to be talking about that in this report, you will also find out which composition he likes, and it’s not something that has been featured in the MCU, mind you!
As said, getting to know your favorite fictional characters is fun. You find out more about them, what makes them more similar to you, how they can be more relatable, as well as how human they actually are and how real they are despite the fact that they are just fictional characters. So, finding out about stuff like a character’s favorite food, color, or book is always fun.
A recent issue of Captain America revealed one such fact about the famous superhero, and the fact is related to his favorite piece of music. In his case, this is a classical composition rather than a pop song, and here is the panel that reveals which composition it is:
Knowing that Captain America is someone who comes from the past, from a time when popular music was still an exotic thing, it doesn’t surprise us that he actually likes a classical piece more than anything else. And what a piece it is!
Rhapsody in Blue is a famous 1924 piece by legendary American composer George Gershwin, written solo piano and jazz band. The composition combines classical music with modern jazz influences, which is why it is a perfect blend for that time, as well as a composition that makes a lot of sense from Captain America’s point of view.
Many believe that the composition defined the Jazz Age as a whole, and musician Orrin Howard writes the following about the piece:
Beginning with that incomparable, flamboyant clarinet solo, Rhapsody is irresistible still, with its syncopated rhythmic vibrancy, its abandoned, impudent flair that tells more about the Roaring Twenties than could a thousand words, and its genuine melodic beauty colored a deep, jazzy blue by the flatted sevenths and thirds that had their origins in the African-American slave songs.

The composition has had an enormous influence on both jazz and modern classical music and it is without a doubt one of the most popular pieces of American classical music of all time.
The legacy of this composition is truly enormous, and one can only admire the genius that is behind one of the best compositions of all time.
So, yeah, we can fully understand why Captain America likes it so much and why the writers decided to choose this composition as the superhero’s favorite piece of music. Before we’re done, here it is for you to enjoy it for yourselves:
