When Marvel Rivals launched on December 6, 2024, it didn’t just arrive; it exploded onto the gaming scene. Players were curious, abandoning their usual games to check out this new hero shooter by Netease. What they found wasn’t just another game—it was a challenge. The mechanics, strategies, and depth hooked people almost instantly.

By day three, Marvel Rivals peaked at a jaw-dropping 480,990 players. What’s shocking is how steady it stayed after that. Most games drop off fast, but this one barely lost momentum. Even during the slowest day, Christmas Day, it still managed 306,584 players, according to SteamDB. By the end of Season 0, daily peak numbers climbed back above 400,000, with January 8 reaching an impressive 438,502.

Streamers couldn’t ignore it. Some, like FaZe Swagg, ditched their usual games mid-stream. Swagg famously left Warzone after dealing with cheaters and went straight to Marvel Rivals. Other games felt the impact too. Overwatch 2 saw its Twitch viewership plummet as players flocked to this new powerhouse.

And it’s not just dominating the player charts—it’s making serious money. Chinese media outlet GameLook reported that Marvel Rivals earned about $54.5M on Steam, $27.2M on PlayStation, and $2.7M on Xbox within the first month. Altogether, global revenue estimates sit near $100M. For a debut, that’s nothing short of groundbreaking.

With Season 1 on the horizon, the hype doesn’t seem to be slowing. Whether it’s the solid gameplay or the lack of strong competition, Marvel Rivals is proving that it’s here to stay.
