Matchbox Films has secured rights in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand for the Brazilian LGBTQ+ romantic thriller Streets of Gloria. The deal was made through Berlin-based sales agent M-Appeal.

The film had its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia before heading to the Mardi Gras Film Festival in Sydney, Australia. Streets of Gloria was previously picked up by Dark Star Pictures for North America.

The story follows Gabriel, a young literature teacher who moves to Rio and stumbles upon The Glória, a lively bar and cruising spot. There, he befriends the charismatic owner, Monica. He soon meets Adriano, a male escort, and their instant chemistry leads to a passionate but intense relationship.

One day, Adriano disappears without a trace. Gabriel’s search for answers leads him deep into the city’s underworld, even becoming an escort himself. As his obsession spirals, he faces a tough decision. With Monica and his newfound friends, he discovers a new sense of belonging and purpose.

The movie is produced by Daniel van Hoogstraten of Syndrome Films, with support from RioFilme, Telecine, and Brazil’s Audiovisual Sector Fund. The cast includes Caio Macedo, Alejandro Claveaux, Diva Menner, Alan Ribeiro, Jade Sassará, and Sandro Aliprandini.

Matchbox Films has been making bold picks lately, adding At Night All Cats Are Black, Fireworks, and Since the Last Time We Met to its lineup. The Streets of Gloria trailer is out now.
