The story of Aladdin is well-known to cinephiles thanks to Disney’s animated film chronicling the story of the young thief, as well as its not-as-successful live-action adaptation. But, Disney doesn’t own the rights to the story and that means that other authors can also tackle the character and potentially even in a way that is very different from what we’re used to.
The upcoming Aladdin movie is something like that, having something to do with Aladdin, but in a very different way. In fact, if you just looked at the trailer – which you are going to see soon – we don’t think you’d ever think that it is an Aladdin story.
The movie we are talking about is Aladdin 3477: The Jinn of Wisdom, which is going to be Matt Busch’s second feature once it arrives in January 2025. At this moment, we are happy to share the trailer for the film with you.
In case the name might seem unknown to you, we are happy to say that Matt Busch is a well-known name in the industry, but in a different branch – not directing. He is an acclaimed artist, best known for his work Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Indiana Jones, all projects Busch made art for.
Back in 2006, he wrote, directed, and starred in the horror film Conjure, which was a straight-to-DVD release, but a release that was quite well received back then.
Now, many years later, Busch is finally ready to release his second film, a project that he started back in 2016 and which is probably going to be his magnum opus.
The project is envisioned as a futuristic trilogy, a retelling of the story of Aladdin set 1,500 years in the future. The first movie is going to be titled Aladdin 3477: The Jinn of Wisdom (the whole trilogy will be marketed as Aladdin 3477), and it will be released on VOD on January 3, 2025.
ScreenRant has the exclusive new trailer for the movie, and you can check it out here as well:
It is obvious that Busch was inspired by both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, which the director himself confirmed, and it is obvious that his experience working on these projects helped him significantly. SceenRant describes the movie as follows:
The film follows Erik Steele as Aladdin, a “street-smart orphan with dreams of ascending to the elite class.” He sets his sights on Princess Kamala of India (Christi Perovski) and is lured into a quest to find a fabled lamp. Alongside him is Oomi (Lin Zy), a homeless girl “whose presence inadvertently thwarts Aladdin’s every scheme,” and an enigmatic ancient sage known as “The Jinn of Wisdom” (Aaron Golematis).

The rest of the cast includes Jon Rick, Tony Miello, Brian Dalling, Jerry Hayes, Irfan Sheikh, Robert Shannon, and Sydney Solomon. Aladdin 3477: The Jinn of Wisdom is executive produced by Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Nikki Stier Justice, Jessica Soo, Dave Todd, and Peter Mayhew, and features the music of Celldweller.
The total runtime will be 118 minutes and we are quite excited to see how this project ends up, especially since there is a solid potential here to make an intriguing indie sci-fi trilogy that might actually become famous later.
