HOW OLD ARE THE STAR WARS CHARACTERS

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… This line is among the most famous movie lines in the history of the media. It all started in 1977 and since then, the Star Wars franchise has inspired generations and is without a doubt one of the most popular media franchises ever. In today’s article we are going to present you the ages of some of the most famous characters in the franchise.

When George Lucas launched the franchise in 1977, with the movie Star Wars (later titled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope for continuity reasons), no one expected that it would become one of the biggest stories of the modern area. Star Wars wasn’t initially that successful, but as the years passed, the franchise became a cult classic, attracting generations of fans and now encompassing nine main continuity movies, video games, several TV shows, comic books and a variety of merchandise that made George Lucas famous. The franchise is today owned by Disney, but wherever it might go after the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars will undoubtedly remain one of the pivotal parts of modern culture.

He later joins the Rebellion and attains the rank of general, although he almost died when Lando betrayed them to Darth Vader. He later reconciled with Lando and helped beat the Empire, falling in love with Leia in the process; the two of them had a son, Ben Solo, who – as Kylo Ren – eventually murdered Solo. Age: 87 years

Debut: The Phantom Menace (Episode I)

He’s a Gungan that accidentally comes across Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan on Naboo and sticks with them after Qui-Gon saves his life from the droids. He is an outcast in his own community and later accompanies the two Jedi on their missions. He doesn’t appear much in the sequels, but we know that he became a Republican senator.

Status: Alive (presumed)

20) Sheev Palpatine / Darth Sidious / The Emperor – 117 years

Age: 117 years

Debut: The Phantom Menace (Episode I, as Palpatine), Revenge of the Sith (Episode III, as Darth Sidious), A New Hope (Episode IV, as The Emperor)

Played by: Ian McDiarmid

Biography: Darth Sidious is the ultimate antagonist of the whole franchise and the most powerful Sith Lord seen in the movies. He started his career as a Senator from Naboo, hiding his true identity. He simultaneously trained Darth Maul and later Darth Tyranus, while plotting to manipulate Anakin and bring him to the Dark Side. He ultimately becomes the Galactic Chancellor, gaining even more power, but was exposed when Anakin told his secret (he had admitted to Anakin that he was Darth Sidious) and almost killed. He survived thanks to Anakin’s betrayal but was horribly scarred. He then declared the Jedi traitors and watched most of them get killed by the clones during the execution of Order 66. He survived an encounter with Master Yoda and then continued to build the Galactic Empire alongside Darth Vader. He was supposedly killed in Episode VI by Darth Vader, but it turned out to be alive, opting for immortality and the complete control over the Galaxy, manipulating Kylo Ren through Snoke. He was eventually killed by Rey with the aid of all the other Jedi.

Status: Dead

21) Chewbacca – 235 years

Age: 235 years

Debut: A New Hope (Episode IV)

Played by: Peter Mayhew (IV-VII), Jonas Suotamo (VII-IX, Solo)

The two of them then became friends and traveling companions, experiencing a lot of adventures in the Millenium Falcon. He later became an important member of the Resistance and a general, fighting against the Empire. Beside the two droids, he is the only surviving member of the original group of protagonists (since Lando joined later on).

Status: Alive

22) Yoda – 900 years

Age: 900 years

Debut: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)

Played by: Frank Oz

Biography: The greatest Jedi Master, Yoda is a very enigmatic character in the franchise. His origins are unknown, but he is still the most powerful Jedi shown in the movies and arguably the strongest character in the whole franchise. He is exceptionally wise, has a profound understanding of the Force and is a great leader. After failing to defeat Palpatine, he went into hiding and spent years on Dagobah, where he briefly trained Luke Skywalker before eventually dying at the age of 900 and becoming a Force Ghost.

She is a former pirate and smuggler who now runs an isolated tavern. She is good friends with Han Solo and is in love with Chewbacca. She has a lot of special abilities and has helped the Resistance on many occasions, ultimately ending up celebrating with them when Palpatine was defeated.
