‘My Hero Academia Faces’ Backlash in Marvel Crossover Over Mirko’s Skin Color
The final volume release of ‘My Hero Academia‘ in Japan was marked by a unique crossover event with Marvel, crafted by series creator Kohei Horikoshi and Marvel artists Humberto Ramos and Edgar Delgado.
This collaboration brought characters from both universes together, including a blend of Spider-Man with ‘My Hero Academia’s’ All Might and Deku.
Although the crossover concept received positive feedback, it sparked controversy concerning the portrayal of Mirko, a character known for her darker skin tone.
In the original ‘My Hero Academia’ series, Mirko is depicted with a distinctly darker complexion. However, fans noticed a discrepancy in her skin color in the Marvel crossover art shared on Marvel Comics’ X page, which presented Mirko with a lighter tone.
This difference caught the attention of social media users! Check it out below:
Interestingly, Edgar Delgado posted a version of Mirko that closely matched her traditional appearance on his personal social media to celebrate the release.
This version was also the one featured on Marvel’s official website, contrasting with the lighter-skinned version that stirred up debates.
This isn’t the first time Mirko’s depiction has caused a stir. When she debuted in Season 5 of the anime, her lighter skin tone compared to the manga sketches was also a point of contention among viewers.
