The Beverly Hills Cop movie series started in 1984 and it was one of the works that made Eddie Murphy a household star in the 80s and 90s. The first two movies were highly successful, but the third movie was a box office bomb and was panned by critics; today, it is considered to be the weakest movie in the series. Now, in 2024, amidst the revival/reboot craze, Axel Foley is back once again as Murphy tries to revive his career after a series of failures and controversies. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is the fourth movie in the series and it will be released by Netflix on July 3, 2024 globally.

As we wait for the premiere, Netflix has just released the first official trailer for the upcoming movie, several months after the initial teaser was released. We on Fiction Horizon are bringing you the trailer for your enjoyment!

Before we continue with the basic information about the movie, here is the trailer so that you can check it out for yourselves:

Eddie Murphy is back in action in one of the roles that made him famous and while the trailer seems to be more in line with the first two films, we are going to have to wait and see how it all plays out. This is certainly an ambitious project and it could make or break Murphy’s potential return, so we’ll see how it all plays out.

Alongside Murphy, the film will also see some other major names, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear as Detective Bobby Abbott, Judge Reinhold as Lieutenant William “Billy” Rosewood, Kevin Bacon as Captain Grant, as well as Taylour Paige as Jane Saunders, John Ashton as Sergeant John Taggart, Paul Reiser as Detective Jeffrey Friedman, and Bronson Pinchot as Serge. Mark Pellegrino has been cast in an unspecified role as well.

Mark Molloy is directing the movie based on a story by Will Beall, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten. Lorne Balfe is composing the score. As for the plot, the official summary reveals the following information about the movie:

Detective Axel Foley (Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter Jane’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer said the following about the movie and its story: “Detroit is a much different city than Los Angeles and especially Beverly Hills. He still has the same kind of wonderment at the things you see walking down Rodeo Drive.” On top of that, director Molloy also commented on the movie as follows: “As we were scouting going from Detroit to Beverly Hills, the cultural contrast that made Axel a fish out of water in the eighties still is so vivid.  They might just be the two most opposite places in America.”

And that is what we have for you as of the time of writing, but we are going to keep following this story, as this is one of the more exciting upcoming releases that we have reported on. So, if you want to know all the updates, be sure to keep following us!
