‘Once Upon a Witch’s Death’ Reveals Promo and Additional Cast Information Ahead of April Premiere

The anime adaptation of Once Upon a Witch’s Death: The Tale of the One Thousand Tears of Joy is gearing up for its debut. EMT Squared just revealed more details, including new cast members, staff, and the opening theme. Mark your calendars—this one hits screens on April 1 at 11:30 p.m. on AT-X, with Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and BS11 following soon after.
Now, let’s talk cast. Hina Youmiya voices Sophie Hayter, while Rumi Ookubo brings Fine Cavendish to life. Atsumi Tanezaki, Miharu Hanai, Aina Suzuki, Shizuka Itou, and Youko Hikasa round out the main lineup. Expect some powerhouse performances from these well-known voices.
On the production side, Atsushi Nigorikawa is directing, with Keiichirou Oochi handling series composition. Character designs come from Yukishizuku, and a group of talented artists—including Shou Yoshida, Aquanta, and Akane Kasasagi—are working on sub-character and prop design.
The visuals should be stunning, considering names like Yumiko Kuga, Takumi Onitani, and Tsunetaka Ema are involved in the background and photography.
The music department is also getting a strong lineup. Akiyuki Tateyama composed the score, and Maaya Sakamoto performed the opening song, Drops. A preview of the track is already making the rounds in the latest promotional video.
The story originally started in 2019 on Kakuyomu under a slightly different title before getting picked up by Kadokawa in 2021. Written by Saka with illustrations by Chorefuji, the light novel won an award in the Dengeki no Shin Bungei contest.
The manga adaptation, illustrated by Kenu Amearare, began serialization in 2023, with the latest volume dropping last September. For English readers, Yen Press has licensed the light novel and is set to release the first volume on April 30. The manga is also available digitally through Kadokawa’s Global BookWalker store.
