One Action Sequence in ‘Furiosa’ Took an Incredible 78 Days to Shoot!
We all know that George Miller is a visionary director and his Mad Max series is a legacy that many generations to come will enjoy. This year, a spin-off from the main series, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, will be released as the most recent installment in the saga. The movie will premiere on May 23, 2024 in theaters around the world and will focus on the background story of the character of Imperator Furiosa, first introduced in the Mad Max: Fury Road movie starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, with the latter portraying an adult version of Furiosa.
Now, Miller is known for meticulously crafting his movies, but a recent revelation related to the filming of the movie shows just how dedicated Miller is, it has been confirmed that there is an action sequence in the movie that took the cast and crew a total of 78 days to shoot! More details follow!
The April 25 issue of Total Film magazine is dedicated to Furiosa, and Miller’s co-producer Doug Mitchell revealed some important details about the shooting of the movie to the magazine, including the fact that the movie “has one 15-minute sequence which took us 78 days to shoot”. The scene is informally known as the ‘Stairway to Nowhere’ scene and it included about 200 stuntpeople, which is truly impressive.
Main star Anya Taylor-Joy also commented on this particular scene, revealing the following to the magazine:
“George and I would have these big conversations about why this particular set-piece was so long. It’s because you see an accumulation of skills over the course of a battle, and that’s very important for understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit. It’s the longest sequence any of us have ever shot. On the day we finished, everybody got a ‘Stairway To Nowhere’ wine!”

We are quite excited to see the scene, to be honest, and it seems that Miller is going to deliver yet another brilliant movie, as the Mad Max saga continues strongly.
As we have stated, the movie will be an origin story that will explore Furiosa’s youth and growth, expanding the fictional universe created in the Mad Max movies.
Anya Taylor-Joy will appear in the main role as Imperator Furiosa (Alyla Browne is portraying a child version of the character), alongside Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus, Tom Burke as Praetorian Jack, Lachy Hulme as the new actor behind the role of Immortan Joe / Rizzdale Pell, Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus, John Howard as The People Eater, Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic, Charlee Fraser as Mary Jo Bassa, Furiosa’s mother, and Daniel Webber as War Boy. The movie premieres on May 23, 2024.
