‘Overwatch 2’s’ Twitch Viewership Plummets Amid Marvel Rivals’ Rise
Overwatch 2 has long enjoyed a large and loyal player base. However, the recent launch of Marvel Rivals has led to a noticeable decline in its Twitch viewership. Many top streamers have shifted their focus to the new game, causing Overwatch 2’s peak viewership to drop by half in just a month.
This decline is particularly striking given that Overwatch 2 introduced a new hero, Hazard, in December. Despite positive feedback, Hazard’s debut and the entire Season 14 release have been overshadowed by Marvel Rivals’ popularity. Even special events like the limited-time Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover and free Winter event skins haven’t stopped the decrease in viewership.
According to Streamscharts, Overwatch 2’s average viewership fell from 28,000 in November to 18,000 in December. More strikingly, peak viewership dropped from 125,000 to 64,000 during the same period. Without December’s Twitch drops, the peak would have been even lower, around 48,000.
In contrast, Marvel Rivals achieved a peak viewership of 275,000 in December, maintaining high numbers even without special promotions. This significant difference has led many streamers, including Flats, Emongg, Eskay, Necros, and Aspen, to continue focusing on Marvel Rivals.
While Overwatch 2 still has a dedicated community, the impact of Marvel Rivals on its Twitch presence is clear. The shift in streamer interest and audience attention highlights the challenges Overwatch 2 faces in retaining its position in the competitive gaming landscape.
