‘Paddington in Peru’ Set for UK Premiere in Fall 2024, US Debut in 2025
Anticipation is building for the next chapter in Paddington’s adventures. ‘Paddington in Peru’ is set to charm cinema-goers when it hits U.S. theaters on Jan. 17, 2025 MLK Weekend. However, UK fans will get a sneak peek of the lovable bear’s escapades a bit earlier, with a premiere set for Nov. 8, 2024.
During the Cannes Film Festival, Deadline reported that Sony secured distribution rights for the U.S., Canada, and several international territories, highlighting the immense trust and confidence in Heyday Films and Studiocanal’s threequel.
Directed by Dougal Wilson, this adventure takes Paddington on a heartfelt journey to Peru. It’s not just a vacation, though – he’s off to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who has made a cozy home at the Home for Retired Bears. Accompanied by the ever-loyal Brown Family, what begins as a reunion soon morphs into an exhilarating escapade. As they unravel a mystery, our beloved characters find themselves navigating the dense Amazon rainforest and scaling the majestic peaks of Peru.
The screenplay, masterfully put together by James Lamont, Jon Foster, and Mark Burton, is enriched by a narrative ideated by Simon Farnaby, Mark Burton, and Paul King. The narrative sources its magic from the beloved children’s tales by the renowned British author, Michael Bond. Steering the production ship are Rosie Alison and David Heyman, with ‘Paddington in Peru’ poised to deliver a delightful blend of laughter, thrill, and heart.
The ensemble is a testament to cinematic excellence. With stalwarts like Antonio Banderas, Julie Walters, Olivia Colman, Emily Mortimer, and Hugh Bonneville headlining the film, the cinematic experience is bound to be unparalleled. Complementing them are Jim Broadbent, Samuel Joslin, Madeleine Harris, and fresh faces Rachel Zegler and Carla Tous. And the voices that encapsulate the essence of Paddington and Aunt Lucy? The remarkable talents of Imelda Staunton and Ben Whishaw, ensuring that Paddington’s charm is ever-present.
A brief on the cast’s roles:
- Hugh Bonneville portrays the endearing Henry Brown.
- Emily Mortimer steps into the shoes of Mary Brown.
- Young stars Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin embrace the roles of Judy Brown and Jonathan “J-Dog” Brown, respectively.
- Veteran actors Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman, and Antonio Banderas play pivotal roles as Mrs. Bird, Samuel Gruber, The Reverend Mother, and Hunter Cabot.
- Rachel Zegler makes her mark as Gina Cabot.
Studiocanal has not only developed but is also fully financing the movie, and will be releasing it in Australia, Poland, New Zealand, Germany, Benelux, France, and the UK. They’ve also secured partnerships for distribution in Japan and China. With Heyday Films at the production helm, the film is shaping up to be an international sensation.
‘Paddington in Peru’, the third installment in the beloved Paddington film series, began principal photography in July 2023. Following the success of Paddington 2 in 2017, expectations are sky-high. And from what I’ve gathered, it’s bound to be a cinematic treat that will captivate audiences of all ages. So, mark your calendars and prepare for an adventure like no other!
