Path of Exile 2 is aiming to keep damage numbers grounded, avoiding the massive damage figures that are common in Diablo 4. The developers at Grinding Gear Games seem determined to keep things realistic, with smaller numbers that feel manageable and less chaotic. On paper, this sounds like a smart move, but not everyone is convinced it’s the right path to take.
In Diablo 4, players often see damage numbers go into the millions, which can feel overwhelming or even absurd. Grinding Gear Games wants Path of Exile 2 to have numbers that make more sense and reflect the player’s skill and progression without going overboard. They hope this approach will create a more meaningful experience for us.
But there’s a catch. Some people worry this change might take away part of the fun. Seeing big damage numbers gives a sense of power and excitement. Smaller numbers might feel less rewarding, even if they make more sense. If Grinding Gear Games isn’t careful, their approach could make combat feel less thrilling.
The two games clearly have different philosophies. Diablo 4 embraces over-the-top moments with flashy effects and insane stats. Path of Exile 2 wants to be more grounded, and focused on gameplay over spectacle. Both styles have their fans, but trying to go too far in the opposite direction could alienate players.
Whether Path of Exile 2’s plan will work depends on how well the gameplay delivers. For now, we can only wait and see if keeping things simple is the right call or a gamble that misses the mark.
