Patrick Stewart Confirmed to Return as Professor X in Doctor Strange 2 Trailer
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness always promised to be a mad movie. Now, when its first trailer is released, we are beginning to see just how crazy it will really be.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been in the making for years. Ever since Doctor Strange came out in 2016, Benedict Cumberbatch’s hero has just been growing in popularity, and the sequel had to follow (it would probably sooner, hadn’t it been to COVID).
Strange is such a character that can flow through multiverses, and he has to be a key figure in connecting the whole Marvel Comics world into MCU.
Now it looks like exactly that is happening in Doctor Strange 2 because the movie will finally bring X-Men to the MCU. The first official Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer confirms to us that Patrick Stewart is returning as the iconic X-Men leader, Charles Xavier aka Professor X!
Is Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange 2?
Even though the trailer doesn’t exactly show Professor X, we do hear his famous voice saying, “We should tell him the truth.“
Strange is seen going through this strange facility, led by a group of Ultron Bots, just before he meets Professor X.
You can check out this scene in a trailer below, starting at the 1:20 mark.
Stewart is best known for playing Charles Xavier in X-Men movies, and he played the character in 7 different movies, the last being Logan in 2017.
What does Xavier’s return mean for the MCU?
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness always teased us to expect some big cameos, even more after Spider-Man: No Way Home, when we saw what is Strange actually capable of.
This bridging of the realities of Multiverses brings us Professor X, and with him, most probably the whole X-Man gang into the MCU.
We have been wondering for a long time, how will they bring X-Men into the MCU, and it looks like this movie will give us those big answers.
What could this mean for the MCU, well there are probably two things that could happen here. One is that this Charles Xavier will be some evil version of the character and that we will just find out about the X-Men. That way, even though X-Men won’t really be a part of MCU soon, we will finally know they are there, and so would our heroes. How would they react to it, we can only guess. But, it would probably be one of connection with X-Men, at least for now.
But, the second thing that could happen is that this movie will really introduce X-Men into the MCU. It would probably happen in a way that Strange somehow merges the universes, and probably some, or all X-Men stay in our universe. I don’t see it likely, at least not completely, because I don’t believe Marvel/Disney want to have the same actors in X-Men roles, unfortunately.
Still, this revelation, that Stewart is here can also mean one more thing, and I am sure we are all thinking about it!
Is Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Doctor Strange 2?
This is only guessing, without any proof, but I would bet we will see Jackman’s Wolverine in the Multiverse of Madness. Stewart and Jackman rarely go separated as Xavier and Logan, and guys from Marvel know what their fans want, and that is to see the real Wolverine in the MCU, at least for one last time.
As I mentioned above, I don’t believe Stewart, and possibly Jackman, will be staying in the MCU. Still, their even short appearance would mean a lot to Marvel fans, and that is something Feige will almost certainly make happen.
