Peacemaker , HBO Max television series created by James Gunn is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and it is the first DC Extended Universe television series. The spin-off from the 2021’s The Suicide Squad is set after the events of the film, when Peacemaker returns home and is forced to join the mysterious “Project Butterfly” – the group of misfits on a mission to identify and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like creatures in human form.
The series premiered on HBO Max on January 13, 2022 and it casts John Cena as Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo and Jennifer Holland as Agent Emilia Harcourt.
It has received critical acclaim, with John Cena’s acting and overall character being highly praised both by movie critics and DC fans. The producer Peter Safran says that Cena had “shown himself over the course of The Suicide Squad to be this extraordinary actor, who had so much more depth and humor and dramatic abilities than I think anybody had ever given him credit for.”
To celebrate the success of the series and also the forthcoming President’s Day weekend, James Gunn decided to share the blooper reel of the first season, containing the scenes in which actors improvised, broke character and showed us just how fun it was to work on this project.
The season finale debuted on Thursday, and although the story is wrapped up perfectly and fans have gotten enough closure, the series is renewed for season 2. James Gunn previously announced this in a tweet in which he says the Peacemaker is coming back “thanks to Peter Safran, John Cena, our incredible cast & crew, our wildly supportive & lovely friends at HBO Max – and mostly all of you for watching!”
