Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Series Officially Confirmed at Amazon
Remember Phoebe Waller-Bridge? The award-winning (three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes, and a British Academy Television Award) English actress, writer, and producer starred in the oh-so-popular series Fleabag and has since then become more and more popular. Most recently, Waller-Bridge contributed to the screenplay of the James Bond film No Time to Die (2021) and starred in the adventure film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), and that seems to have convinced the guys at Amazon to make her teenage dream come true! Namely, it has been confirmed that Amazon is working on a streaming series based on the popular video game franchise – Tomb Raider – with Waller-Bridge serving as writer and producer!
This will be the first time that Lara Croft will appear in a series, after having previously appeared on the big screen, where she was played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. It is unknown whether Vikander will come back for the upcoming series, or if Amazon is going to be looking for a new Lara Croft.
As of the time of writing, not much is known about the series, but Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games, has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, as well as a new video game that will also be made as part of a deal between Amazon and Crystal Dynamics:
“With great IP, the possibilities are endless. The richness and depth of the fiction allows the Tomb Raider series from Prime Video and the video game from Amazon Games to tell separate stories about Lara Croft’s adventures.We’re honored that Crystal Dynamics has entrusted Amazon with this iconic franchise, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this collaboration takes us.“

As far as we can deduce, Waller-Bridge won’t be appearing in a major capacity in the series (a smaller role is still possible), but she will be in charge of the story and the production, which is why she has told the media that she was quite happy and that this was a teenage dream of hers. The series doesn’t have a release window yet, so we don’t actually know when it will appear on the streaming service, but we hope that it will be soon enough, as the world needs more of Lara Croft’s live-action adventures, as well as more games.
