Rebecca Yarros Provides Fans with a Major Update on Amazon’s Adaptation of ‘The Fourth Wing’

If you haven’t heard of Fourth Wing by now, you might have missed one of the biggest BookTok sensations in recent years. The novel, a blend of fantasy and romance, follows Violet Sorrengail as she’s thrown into an elite dragon-riding academy.
Along the way, she crosses paths with the intense and powerful Xaden Riorson, setting the stage for a gripping love story.
Fans have been waiting for news on the Amazon TV adaptation, and now there’s an update. Rebecca Yarros, fresh off the release of Onyx Storm, has shared details on the show’s progress. While rumors are swirling about casting, nothing has been confirmed yet. However, Yarros has made it clear that Xaden’s role will be filled by a person of color.
In a recent interview, Yarros revealed that the series has mapped out a five-book storyline. She admitted things shifted a bit in Book 3, but the core plan remains intact. As she prepares to dive into plotting the final two books, she assured readers that the showrunners are aware of her vision and working closely with her.
Moira Walley-Beckett, known for her award-winning work on Breaking Bad, is leading the adaptation. Yarros praised her, saying, ‘Moira is great. She’s phenomenal.’
While no casting decisions have been made yet, the author is standing firm on her commitment to representation. She emphasized how important it is that the adaptation stays true to the diversity in her books.
There’s no release date yet, so there’s plenty of time to catch up on the Empyrean Series. With two books still to come, Yarros is making sure the story unfolds the right way before the show takes off.
