Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 Plot
The overall plot of Rent-A-Girlfriend is rather simple and follows the everyday situations of students Kazuya Kinoshita and Chizuru Mizuhara. It is a slice of life anime with elements of romance and comedy, so you can assume what the show is going to be about. The show is pretty grounded and based mostly on real-life situations, although with your classic anime twist.
Kazuya Kinoshita is a college student but he feels lonely after his girlfriend dumps him for another when they have been dating for a month. To get out of his melancholy, he then decides to use girlfriend rental services using Diamond, a trending application in Japan. He thus meets Chizuru Mizuhara, and at first sight, this “girlfriend for rent” with the beautiful face and the perfect behavior appears as the ideal girlfriend of which he always dreamed of.
However because she seems to be too perfect and unrealistic, he rehires her services this time to take out all his frustration and reject her, but Chizuru berates him for this and turns out to be meaner than he expected. Nevertheless, in the midst of their quarrel, Kazuya learns that his grandmother Nagomi passed out and had to be hospitalized. Visiting her in the hospital, he gets pretentious by introducing Chizuru as his girlfriend.
Kazuya continues to hire Chizuru’s services in order to keep up appearances with his family and friends, but things get complicated when they discover that they are next-door neighbors and attend the same college. Later, other girls from the girlfriend rental world also join in dating and show interest in Kazuya.
What Is the Plot of Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 1?
The first season of Rent-A-Girlfriend consisted of 12 episodes and it adapted the first six volumes of the manga. The season actually anded with the events from the first chapter of Volume 7 of the manga, so we expect Season 2 to continue where Season 1 left off. The first season was a pretty decent and precise adaptation of the manga with no filler content, which is what we’re expecting from season two as well.
The first season ended with Kazuya Kinoshita, at the request of Chizuru Ichinose, agreeing to go on a “practice date” with Sumi Sakurasawa, who, despite her crippling shyness, is trying to get by as a live-in girlfriend. It was an opportunity for Sumi Sakurasawa to practice her social skills and build some self-confidence – or at least it was supposed to be until Mami Nanami interfered. The second season is probably going to explore the implications of these events.
Rent-A-Girlfriend Cast and Characters
As for season two of Rent-A-Girlfriend, there won’t be many changes in terms of characters. There will be, of course, some additions, more or less important, but seeing how it’s a slice of life anime series, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two. Here, we are going to bring you a list of the main characters from season one, as it is expected that the voice actors will reprise their roles in the upcoming season:
Kazuya Kinoshita is voiced by Shun Horie. Kazuya is a college student who, following a painful breakup with his girlfriend Mami, decides to hire a girlfriend for hire. He soon finds himself in situations where he has to keep praising Chizuru to keep up appearances with his family and friends. He then develops romantic feelings towards Chizuru.
Chizuru Mizuhara is voiced by Sora Amamiya. She is a student who works quietly as a girlfriend for hire for the Diamond company. She is proud of her outstanding marks on service, but becomes annoyed and aggressive when Kazuya embarrasses her and gives her a low mark. At school, she goes by her grandmother’s surname Ichinose and tackles a nerdy appearance with tall-lensed glasses and braided pigtails. Chizuru and Kazuya quickly realize that they are neighbors living on the same floor of the apartment cluster. She continues to let Kazuya hire her services in order to help her grandmother and help her grow as a person. The reason that made him get into the girlfriend rental business is to gain experience in role-playing and to become an actress.
Mami Nanami is voiced by Aoi Yūki. She is Kazuya’s ex-girlfriend. She has short blonde hair. She appears to be outwardly friendly, but harbors jealous and possessive feelings that sometimes frighten her friends. She is shocked and suspicious that Kazuya found another girlfriend so soon after she dumped him.
Ruka Sarashina is voiced by Nao Tōyama. She is a girl who is introduced as the girlfriend of a friend of Kazuya, but is also revealed to be a girlfriend for hire working for another company. She wears a ribbon headband. She genuinely wants to date Kazuya after seeing how kindly and passionately he treats Chizuru and her. She has a health condition causing her to have a low heart rate which she needs to watch out for, and Kazuya is the first boy to have his heart rate up.
Sumi Sakurasawa is voiced by Rie Takahashi. She is a girl who also works as a girlfriend for rent in the same company as Chizuru. She is in her first year of college and is a relative newcomer to the industry. She has pink hair with a braided streak on one side. She has a shy personality, and through Chizuru’s encouragement, she dates Kazuya in order to improve her skills as a girlfriend-for-hire, later developing feelings for him.
