‘Retreat’: ‘The OA’ Creators Sets the Cast for Limited Series

Duo Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij are back with a new series this time for FX. After their previous sci-fi show, The OA was axed by Netflix, Retreat is their newest show.

Marling, Emma Corrin (The Crown), Clive Owen (Closer), Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man), Alice Braga (Queen of the South), Jermaine Fowler (Judas and the Black Messiah), Joan Chen (Marco Polo), Raul Esparza, Edoardo Ballerini, Pegah Ferydoni, Ryan J. Haddad, and Javed Khan have been cast in the series.

The story is a radical conceptualization of the whodunit with a new kind of detective at the helm – a gen Z amateur sleuth named Darby Hart. A reclusive billionaire invites guests to a retreat in a remote and serene location but one guest is found dead. Darby must fight to prove that it was murder against a tide of competing interests – and before someone else gets murdered.

Corrin is Darby, Marling portrays Lee, Dickinson plays Bill, Braga portrays Sian, Owen plays Andy, Fowler is Martin, Chen portrays Lu Mei, Esparza is David, Ballerini plays Ray, Ferydoni is Ziba, Haddad portrays Oliver and Khan is Rohan.

The series will be produced by FX Productions. Marling and Batmanglij will write and direct the series. They still will executive produce along with Andrea Sperling.

Marling is best known for starring in The OA where she was also created the show. Corrin is best known for The Crown and has an upcoming movie My Policeman starring British pop star Harry Styles. Dickinson is known for Beach Rats (2017) and recently in The King’s Man (2021), Braga is best known for Queen of the South. Owen is best known for Closer (2004) and Gemini Man (2019).
