The Chronicles of Riddick is a very interesting sci-fi franchise if you look at it. It never became a cult classic mainstream title, but The Chronicles of Riddick franchise has a solid fanbase, and the franchise as a whole definitely helped its star Vin Diesel in his career, establishing him as a star. It was created by brothers Ken and Jim Wheat and focuses on the stories of the antihero character Riddick in the 28th century. The series started in 2000 and we have since seen three feature films and one animated short. Today, we can confirm that a fourth feature film, titled Riddick: Furya, is going to be made with Diesel reprising his role and filming starting later this year!

The new Riddick film will be a continuation of the series, which is definitely great news for fans. It has been a while since the last film appeared, and while a sequel had been confirmed, along with a television series, it wasn’t until now that we could actually confirm that the franchise is not dead.

The upcoming movie is going to be titled Riddick: Furya and will be the fourth feature film in the series. The first film in the series, Pitch Black, was released in 2000 and it became cult classic, launching a franchise that continued with The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013). A short animated movie, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury (2004), in which Diesel voiced Riddick, was also released. After the animated movie, it was David Thowy who took over the franchise from the Wheat Brothers, and he will be back once more to write and direct Riddick: Furya.

Vin Diesel is, of course, also back, and the movie will, as has been confirmed, begin shooting this August, with shooting to take place in Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Other cast and crew members have not been revealed as of the time of writing, but we have a rough plot outline of the upcoming movie, which reveals the following:

Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

As you can see, the fourth movie will go back to the beginning of the franchise, and that might be a good thing. Also, it has been reiterated that a Riddick television series is still in development, so it seems that the franchise is far from being dead.

And that is what we have for you at this moment, but be sure to keep following us for all the news and updates related to the franchise!
