Rumor Hints at Robert Pattinson Becoming the DCU’s Main and Only Batman in the Future

'The Penguin' Changes Batman's Nickname and That Means More than You Think

By now, everyone knows that Matt Reeves’ The Batman was an enormous success. Though it was set in a different reality from the then-relevant DCEU, given that it introduced a second Batman, it also doesn’t seem like it will be tied to James Gunn’s new DCU.

And although Matt Reeves’ solo series appears to remain unaltered in that regard, the DC revamps brought about a number of adjustments. It appears that Reeves won’t miss out on the opportunity to create his world, as some fans had feared when the original plans were shelved.

Gunn will, as it stands now, work on his own version of the character, while Reeves will continue to work with Robert Pattinson’s version.

But, a recent rumor confirms that the WB heads want to capitalize on the success of Batman (and The Batman), and that the CEO is pushing for Pattinson to become the main DCU Batman, regardless of Gunn’s initial plans.

As reported, this rumor comes from popular and reliable insider Jeff Sneider, who claims that he has heard that WB CEO David Zaslav is actually pushing for more Batman content in the DCU. This, if true, is fully understandable. The Batman is a hit, Batman – as a character – is still DC’s biggest asset, The Penguin is going great, and Batman recently got his own star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.

And while Gunn’s plan to compete with the MCU is a long-term one, Zaslav wants to become a proper competitor sooner, rather than later, as Sneider confirms. This is why he is pushing for Pattinson’s Batman to become the DCU’s main Batman, but there are several issues there.

First of all, Gunn clearly stated that Pattinson’s Batman would be a separate one from the DCU’s Caped Crusader, who is yet to be cast ahead of his debut in The Brave and the Bold.

While it wouldn’t be impossible to retroactively integrate Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU, the world he comes from is Reeves’, and we doubt that (1) Reeves would give up creative control over his world (which would lead to a clash with Gunn’s vision, which is clearly different and lighter than Reeves’, and that is fine), and (2) Gunn would actually be able to work on his own vision of the DCU under such circumstances.

Plus, there is the issue of whether Robert Pattinson would agree to appear in just about every DCU project ever, as well as the issue that The Brave and the Bold is going to be directed by Andy Muschietti, so it wouldn’t make much sense for Reeves’ vision to be altered in such a way.

So, Zaslav is pushing for more Batman, but based on how things stand – and assuming that WB doesn’t want to make another mistake that will doom the DCU before it even comes to life (which is what ruined the DCEU) – it is an unlikely scenario. But who knows… Stupid decisions have been made in the past… anyway – we’ll see, so keep following us for all the news and updates!
