Marvel Studios‘ upcoming film ‘Thunderbolts‘ is getting a fresh touch on its script. Joanna Calo, known for her work on shows like ‘The Bear’ and ‘Beef,’ is stepping in to rework the screenplay. This news comes from the popular source @rDCEUleaks.

‘Thunderbolts’ is set to be a significant addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), marking it as the thirty-sixth film and part of Phase Five. It’s a sequel to several MCU projects, including ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,’ ‘Black Widow,’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ Originally scheduled for a July 2024 release, the film is now expected to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.

The film’s cast includes a blend of familiar and new faces. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, alongside Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Wyatt Russell will appear as John Walker/U.S. Agent, with Olga Kurylenko reprising her role as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster. Fans can also look forward to David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian and Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost. Julia Louis-Dreyfus continues her role as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Harrison Ford joins the MCU as President Thaddeus Ross.

Adding to the excitement, Ayo Edebiri and Steven Yeun are also set to star in undisclosed roles. The film’s initial script was penned by Eric Pearson, with Lee Sung Jin later stepping in for a rewrite. However, Joanna Calo is taking the reins now.

The journey of ‘Thunderbolts’ hasn’t been without its challenges. A strike by the Writers Guild of America in 2023 temporarily halted production. Despite this, the film is now on track to begin production in Utah this summer.

As fans eagerly await the film’s release, Calo’s involvement certainly raises expectations for an intriguing and dynamic addition to the MCU.
