‘American Pie’ Star Wanted to Play Booster Gold. Is He a Better Choice?
We know that Booster Gold is one of DC’s most peculiar superheroes. Not a mainstream or major character, Booster Gold nevertheless has a major legacy in DC’s comics and is a character who enjoys a lot of popularity among the fans, which is why they always want to see him done well, regardless of the iteration.
In light of that, we are going to talk about the upcoming Booster Gold movie, which is going to be part of the DCU and will star Kumail Nanjiani as the titular superhero. The fans were not amazed, as Nanjiani doesn’t really look like Booster Gold, who is a character with a very specific appearance.
And while the fans’ demands probably won’t influence Gunn to change his mind, an old interview of another actor wanting to play Booster Gold has reemerged and it seems that Gunn did have some willing alternatives for the role, and some very interesting ones at that.
This interview is not really that old, it is from late 2023, but it has recently resurfaced as some fans are still not satisfied with the casting for Booster Gold. They probably wanted to see a blonde actor in the role (like Ryan Gosling, for example), which would be more comic book accurate, but that is obviously not happening, although this interview confirms that a blonde actor has, indeed, offered himself to Gunn for the part.
The actor in question is American Pie star Sean William Scott, who will always be remembered as the legendary Stifler, but also the guy from Dude, Where’s My Car?, a cult classic comedy, where he co-starred with Ashton Kutcher. In a talk with ComicBook.com, Scott was asked about which comic book role he’d like to play, and here is his answer:
“I definitely would. I’d love to. I think it’d be fun to do a comic book movie. I think the first character that came to mind was — Booster Gold could be very fun, but I think I’m too old for it… I don’t know if he’s supposed to be younger, but that character, I was like ‘That I could.’ I just don’t remember his age, but it was like ‘That’s a great character. Come on, James Gunn! Let’s go!”

As you can see, he was quite straightforward about his desire to play Booster Gold and he even called out James Gunn to make it happen. We now know that it did not happen, but it is still an interesting possibility to consider, no? Would you have wanted to see Sean William Scott as Booster Gold? Is he a better pick for the role than Kumail Nanjiani? Please, share your opinions with us in the comments below!
