Sobini teams up with Bobby Smith Jr. and Brenda Jackson for Voluptuous
Mark Amin’s Sobini Films has set Bobby Smith Jr. to adapt “Bare Essentials” and “Bound by Desire” by the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Brenda Jackson, under the title “Voluptuous,” a groundbreaking one-hour romantic drama that captures the ups and downs of being a voluptuous woman in America today. Sobini Films’ Mark Amin, Cami Winikoff, and Tyler Boehm will Executive Produce.
Bobby Smith Jr. most recently wrote INNERCITY SYMPHONY for Disney Plus and is developing a TV remake of his feature JASON’S LYRIC with Orion TV, a reimagining of “The Great Gatsby” for Scooter Braun’s SB Projects and an adaptation of “Les Miserables” for Westbrook Studios. Most recently, The Cartel announced an agreement with Smith and Jackson for options on a number of her titles for film and TV, with Smith adapting.
Brenda Jackson has over 15 million books in print. A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author of over 140 novels and novellas, she began her professional writing career in 1995 with the release of her first book, Tonight and Forever. Since then she has written over 140 titles, which includes a made-for-television movie by BET, One Special Moment as well as the movies, Truly Everlasting by Five Alive Films and A Brother’s Honor, by Passionflix. She was a 2012 NAACP Image Award Nominee for Outstanding Literary Fiction for her book, A Silken Thread; and was named Romance Writers of America’s Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for 2012. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Sobini’s Amin most recently produced and directed the Civil War drama EMPEROR, starring Dayo Okeniyi, Kat Graham, Bruce Dern, James Cromwell and Mykelti Williamson. He also produced the Universal release JT LEROY starring Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern, Sony Pictures Classics’ MILES AHEAD starring Don Cheadle and Ewan McGregor, and IFC’s MARY SHELLEY starring Elle Fanning. In addition to his work at Sobini, Amin served as Vice Chairman of Lionsgate Entertainment and prior to that founded Trimark Holdings, Inc. and served as the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer until the company merged with Lionsgate.
