As fans of the series will know, A-1 Pictures’ anime adaptation of the popular South Korean manhwa series Solo Leveling finally premiered in January 2024 after numerous delays. And while the series has received more or less positive reactions, fans of the original manga were not as overwhelmed as they had hoped. Still, the series is one of the biggest titles of the Winter 2024 lineup and fans definitely want more episodes of the series. Today, the 12th and final episode of the first cour of the series aired in Japan, and while it had been reported that the series would run for two cours, it is only today that the second cour was actually confirmed officially.
The reports are scarce at the moment, but popular anime insider channel Sugoi LITE reports that the second cour has been confirmed and that a PV video has also been released, but it seems it is as of the time of writing a limited Japan-only release, as the video is not available on YouTube yet.
The announcement has been made via Twitter (now X), and since Sugoi LITE is a reliable source, we are bringing the announcement to you here, as it is definitely an early scoop:
The series is currently listed as having 25 episodes, which would mean that the second cour will have 13 episodes, one more than the first. No release window has been given as of the time of writing, but we are going to bring you additional updates as they are released.
UPDATE:
The official preview video for the second cour has now been officially released, revealing that the second cour of the series will be subtitled “Arise from the Shadow.” The video itself contains clips from Season 1, so there is not much new that you will see, and sadly, there is no release window as of the time of writing, but this is, nevertheless, good news. You can check out the video yourselves:
Until then, here is an official recap of the synopsis of Solo Leveling:
It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates” — the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. In this world of tough customers, the low-ranked hunter Jinwoo Sung is known as “the weakest hunter of all mankind.” One day, Jinwoo gets fatally injured when he runs into high-rank double dungeons hidden within a low-rank dungeon. Just then, a mysterious quest window appears in front of him.
On the verge of death, Jinwoo decides to accept the quest and starts leveling up… while the others aren’t.
This is what we have as of the time of writing, but keep following us for more updates on the upcoming second cour of the anime, as we are going to bring you all the latest information, as usual. Until then, you can enjoy the first cour of the series exclusively on Crunchyroll.
