‘Sonic’ Star Recalls the Emotional Impact of the Movie’s Final Scene

Lee Majdoub, who plays Agent Stone in the Sonic franchise and most recently in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, recently opened up about filming one of the movie’s most emotional moments.
He talked about a scene near the end where Stone has to say goodbye to Jim Carrey’s Ivo Robotnik. Carrey’s character makes a huge sacrifice to save humanity, leaving Stone behind. Majdoub admitted that filming this moment was tough because of how much their relationship had developed over the three movies.
He explained that he felt a lot of pressure while shooting, knowing how important the scene was. ‘The whole film is about love and loss and grief, and how different characters process that,’ he said.
Since it was uncertain if this would be the last time he worked with Carrey or played Agent Stone, it made the moment feel even heavier. He reminded himself to stay grounded and let the emotions flow naturally.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 focuses a lot on Agent Stone’s loyalty to Robotnik. Throughout the film, it’s clear how much he cares about his boss. But when Robotnik shifts his attention to his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, Stone is left feeling forgotten. By the end, Stone is still alive, but Robotnik is gone, forcing him to say his farewell from a distance.
Majdoub’s comments don’t confirm whether we’ve seen the last of these characters together. There’s still a chance Jim Carrey could return as Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. If that happens, we might see him reunite with Stone once again.
