Spy X Family Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Cast & Spoilers for Part 2

Spy x Family

SPY×FAMILY is a Japanese manga and anime series that premiered in 2019, with the anime series debuting in 2022. The story follows a spy who has to “make a family” to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as a daughter and the woman he agrees to be in a fake marriage with are a mind reader and an assassin, which causes trouble for him. The first season of this extremely popular anime series has only recently ended and in this article, we are going to tell you everything about the upcoming second cour of episodes.

The second cour (season) of SPY×FAMILY has been officially confirmed in June 2022 and is going to air sometime in October 2022. The first season ended just recently, in June 2022, so an announcement of a sequel arrived rather quickly as we can look forward to more episodes of SPY×FAMILY. The only “problem” we have at this point is that we don’t know the exact date of the premiere, but we do know it’s going to be in October.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the upcoming season two of SPY×FAMILY. You’re going to find out about its release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, the basic cast information, and much more about this intriguing anime series.

SPY×FAMILY Season 2 release date

On November 1, 2021, a new website opened announcing a SPY×FAMILY anime television series for 2022, produced by CloverWorks and Wit Studio and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. Kazuaki Shimada was said to be designing the characters and [K]NoW_NAME was said to be composing the music. Takuya Eguchi was cast for the role of Loid Forger.

The 25-episode series would be split into two non-consecutive cours. The first cour aired from April 9, 2022 to June 25, 2022 on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido and TVQ, and the second course will air in October on the same platform, as has been confirmed in June 2022. Crunchyroll owns the simulcast rights to the series outside of Asia. Official Hige Dandism performs the opening credits titled “Mixed Nuts” while Gen Hoshino performs the ending credits titled “Kigeki”.

Spy x Family

Taking all of this into account, SPY×FAMILY was certainly going to return at some point and taking into account the popularity of the series, a third cour of episodes, i.e., a proper second season is practically a sure thing.

The source works are, as we have said, quite popular, as was the anime series, and the fact that the franchise has a large fanbase, combined with the fact that we have seen the first season relatively recently, makes us even more hopeful. In any case, SPY×FAMILY is returning in October 2022 to finish its first season with the second cour of episodes, and after that, it remains to be seen when it is going to come back.

SPY×FAMILY Season 2 trailer

You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to SPY×FAMILY Season 2, so you’ve probably though that there is no trailer for the second cour of SPY×FAMILY episodes, but the producers have surprised us. Namely, it is not usual practice for a trailer of any kind (save for a short teaser in some cases) to appear so quickly after the announcement, unless it’s some big pre-planned project.

But, the producers of SPY×FAMILY have surprised us – pleasantly – once again and have provided us with a solid teaser trailer for the upcoming cour of episodes. You can check it out here:

With the cour premiering in October 2022, at least one additional trailer is going to appear in the following months. This is why we advise you to keep following this article for more news on the second cour of SPY×FAMILY episodes.

SPY×FAMILY Season 2 plot

At this moment, we do not know which parts of the ongoing manga series are going to be adapted in Season 2. This is why we have decided to bring you a general overview of the series so you can know what to expect.

It is the Cold War between east and west, an uneasy peace has been established between Ostania and Westalis. But this peace being fragile, “Twilight”, a brilliant spy sent from Westalis to Ostania, is responsible for carrying out Operation Strix, consisting of getting closer and investigating the target – the Ostanian extremist politician Donovan Desmond.

To do this, he must once again change his identity by creating a family and adopting a child in order to enroll him in the prestigious Eden school that Desmond’s son attends. Twilight then poses as a psychiatrist under the name Loid Forger and meets a girl, Anya, who can read the minds of others at an orphanage he visits while looking for a child to adopt.

Using her ability, Anya pretends to be intelligent, so Twilight decides to adopt her, thinking she can pass Eden’s entrance test. However, Twilight struggles to get her to study, but she barely manages to pass the written test. However, when she was asked to bring her “both parents” to her next interview, Twilight rushed to find a woman to take on the role of wife.

They then meet a woman named Yor Briar, a “discreet” town hall official whose appearance is the subject of ridicule because she is still unmarried. Except that she’s actually a covert professional killer under the code name “Thorn Princess” and so is looking for a man delicate enough to keep her cover.

Anya learns with her power that Yor is a contract killer and out of curiosity pushes her to become his mother. As a result, everyone’s interests coincide, Yor looking for cover, Twilight looking for an accomplice, and Anya looking for fun; the three then begin to live as an improvised family, each hiding their true identities from the eyes of the others.

SPY×FAMILY Season 2 cast

It’s still too early for us to discuss the full cast of the second cour of SPY×FAMILY in terms of cast and characters, simply because we don’t have any detailed information on the second cour, although we know that the original cast members are going to return and that we’ll be seeing some new faces as well. Seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two, when it actually comes out in October. Now, the main characters that have appeared in the first season, likely to return for the second season, include:

Where to watch SPY×FAMILY Season 2?

At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching SPY×FAMILY season two, as there is no season two of SPY×FAMILY to watch. The first season was streamed globally by Crunchyroll and Hulu, two of the biggest anime players on the Internet, so it is safe to assume that both Crunchyroll and Hulu will stream the second season when it actually comes out.

Will there be a SPY×FAMILY Season 3?

The future of SPY×FAMILY is, as of this moment, unknown. At this moment, we don’t really know anything about a third season, so whether we’ll actually see it or not is, at this moment, still unknown.

The series has done well and there is still a lot of material to adapt, which is a good sign for fans of SPY×FAMILY, but we are going to have to wait and see how the situation with the second cour evolves to know more about a potential season three, although it is likely based on what we know now.
