Since its September 17 launch, the blockbuster Korean drama has conquered the world, hitting number one in 90 countries in only ten days and becoming the streamer’s largest non-English show ever.
However, due to the show’s cruel concept, few of the Squid Game cast members survived to see season one’s finale, with just the winner returning for another round of horrific nursery games. Can we thus anticipate a second season? Will the game continue, or will Gi-hun decide to call a halt to it? Will there be a squid Game season 2?
Although Squid Game season two has not yet been confirmed, its phenomenal popularity indicates that it will happen soon. Netflix has made no indications on whether or not it would renew its most popular Korean drama to date. The series has had a consistent presence in the Top 10, implying that further episodes may be forthcoming, although not soon. The show’s writer and director, Hwang Dong-hyuk told Variety that while he’s pleased with the success of Squid Game, the process of making it was long and stressful. “I don’t have well-developed plans for Squid Game 2. It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”
Hwang Dong-hyuk recently told YTN, a Korean news outlet, that he first thought of the show’s premise back in 2008, so he’s had plenty of time to flesh out a longer game plan beyond season one.
Dong-hyuk also said that he was currently working on a film script, which means that even if the writer-director signs on for a second Squid Game, the wait might be longer if he chooses to return to feature filmmaking first.
The writer-director is now developing a film, Killing Old Men Club, on intergenerational conflict, therefore a second season may be delayed. Unless, of course, the tremendous worldwide success of Squid Game season one convinces Hwang to return to the arena. Which would be a very Squid Game thing to happen, if you think about it.

Squid Game Season 2 Release Date
Netflix has not yet confirmed the renewal of Squid Game for a second season, so there is no way of knowing when it will premiere on the streaming site. However, based on predictions, we anticipate the second season to premiere in about 2023.

Squid Game Season 2 Trailer

Squid Game Season 2 Plot

One year later, when he runs into the Salesman recruiting another participant, Gi-hun finds that the Game is set to restart. Just as he is about to embark on his journey to America, Gi-hun chooses to remain in Korea to finally put an end to the Game.
At the conclusion of the first season of Squid Game, Gi-hun defeated the game despite all odds. However, the game is not yet over. Following the death of the founder of the Squid Game, Gi-hun finds that the competition continues with fresh entrants.
Given this, it would be natural to continue the tale with Gi-hun at the center, doing everything he can to bring the game to a halt, just as he pledges to do in those final minutes.
However, that moment also has an odd feeling of finality, and it’s difficult to envision Gi-hun defeating the game’s designers, even with his newfound money. However, if the writers do decide to move on from Gi-tale, hun’s Squid Game may still continue in season two in a variety of other ways.
The last scene leaves supporters yearning for a continuation of Gi-narrative, hun’s with the victor teaming up with others to bring down the hidden, international death Game. Everything is up in the air except for Gi-highly hun’s likely comeback.

Squid Game Season 2 Cast
It’s probably not a spoiler to say that the bulk of the Squid Game actors from season one that played the 456 will not return for season two. However, it is worth mentioning that Lee Jung-Jae might return as Seung Gi-hun, the winner of the first games.
Other characters that have died, such as Park Hae-soo, Oh Yeong-su, and Jung Ho-Yeon, may appear in flashbacks, although the majority of season two’s cast will almost certainly be newcomers.
We also saw the games’ recruiter in the first season, so famed actor Gong Yoo will probably make an appearance in season two, possibly to dive more into the deadly challenge’s backstory.
Gi-hun is motivated not just to learn more about the lethal games he escaped, but also to prevent them from happening again. To bring the frightening competition to an end, he’ll have to face off against Player 001’s sidekick The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who will almost certainly take over as the operation’s commander.
Another face we could see is that of Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-Joon), the police officer who successfully snuck inside the bunker and claimed to be a pink-suited security guard. His quest is cut short when he is shot by The Front Man, who turns out to be his long-lost brother In-ho.
