In a surprising turn, ‘Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl’ has overtaken ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’ as the top-selling game on Steam. This marks a significant achievement for ‘Stalker 2’, the first new entry in the series in 15 years.
The game sold over one million copies across PC and Xbox Series X|S within its first 24 hours. On Steam, it reached a peak of 119,039 concurrent players, highlighting its strong performance.
Despite its success, ‘Stalker 2’ has received a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating on Steam, with 79% of 25,249 reviews being favorable. Many negative reviews cite performance and technical issues, which the developers are expected to address in future updates.
Players can anticipate at least 40 hours of gameplay to complete the main story. However, the game is currently listed as ‘Unsupported’ on Steam Deck.
The game’s setting, the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, has evolved dramatically after a second massive explosion in 2006. This area now features violent mutants, deadly anomalies, and warring factions, making survival a significant challenge.
At the center of the Zone lies a source of incredible power, attracting individuals known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s who seek fortune or truth within the Heart of Chornobyl.
While ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’ remains a strong contender, currently holding the second spot on the Steam charts, ‘Stalker 2’s’ unexpected rise to the top demonstrates the gaming community’s enthusiasm for this long-awaited sequel.
As the developers work to resolve technical issues, ‘Stalker 2’ is poised to solidify its position as a standout title in the current gaming landscape.
