Okay, we all loved the original Star Wars trilogy. George Lucas’ unique vision defined the space opera genre and gave us some epic movies that we will love for years to come. But remember when the Prequel Trilogy came out? Sure, by the time the Revenge of the Sith came out, fans were more satisfied with the story, but do you remember how much hate was directed towards Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace when it first came out? And it wasn’t just Jar-Jar Binks that people hated – it was the whole concept and many parts of the story.

Yours truly personally liked the Prequel Trilogy (Episode II was a bit confusing, but more on that on some other occasion) and we on Fiction Horizon are quite happy with how well the three movies aged, as fans have been starting to appreciate these movies more and more in recent years, especially after Disney’s Sequel Trilogy. In light of that, Variety brings us a great piece of news about the Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace movie!

Namely, as per the magazine’s report, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is currently the most-watched Star Wars movie on Disney+, surpassing even some major hits like Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. This comes as a bit of a surprise, but is actually not that strange, seeing how fans have been more welcoming towards the movies in recent years.

The exact numbers have not been revealed, but to find out that Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace has surpassed all the other Star Wars movies is certainly great. If you remember, the movie featured Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn, a young Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Natalie Portman as Queen Amidala, Ian McDiarmid as Senator Palpatine, Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu, Ahmed Best as Jar-Jar Binks, Ray Park as Darth Maul, Jake Lloyd as Anakin Skywalker, Frank Oz as Yoda, and many others.

The official synopsis of the movie reveals the following:

Stranded on the desert planet Tatooine after rescuing young Queen Amidala from the impending invasion of Naboo, Jedi apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn discover nine-year-old Anakin, a young slave unusually strong in the Force. Anakin wins a thrilling Podrace — and with it his freedom as he leaves his home to be trained as a Jedi. The heroes return to Naboo, where Anakin and the Queen face massive invasion forces, while the two Jedi contend with the deadly foe Darth Maul. Only then do they realize the invasion is merely the first step in a sinister scheme by the reemergent forces of darkness known as the Sith.

The movie has recently had a theatrical re-release to celebrate its 25th anniversary and it did fairly well, which probably contributed to the Disney+ success as well. We’re just happy to see the movie doing well and we hope that the Prequel Trilogy attracts even more fans in the future!
