Ubisoft has shared new details about ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, focusing on its revamped stealth mechanics. Set in feudal Japan, the game introduces two distinct characters: Naoe, a nimble shinobi, and Yasuke, a formidable samurai. This duality offers varied gameplay experiences.
A standout feature is the ‘Observe’ system, allowing us to tag enemies and highlight environmental elements, providing on-screen information to aid in planning our moves. The return of ‘Eagle Vision’ lets us detect hidden foes behind walls, enhancing our strategic approach.
Stealth tactics have evolved. We can now hide in shadows, becoming invisible to enemies, and even create dark areas by extinguishing light sources. Crouching reduces footstep noise, and lying down makes us less visible. Naoe’s agility enables her to hide in confined spaces and navigate through small openings.
Double assassinations are back, accessible when Naoe equips the Tanto and unlocks a specific skill. Her toolkit includes smoke bombs, shinobi bells to lure enemies, kunai, and shuriken.
Unlike previous games, grabbing enemies for takedowns requires manual execution. Yasuke, though primarily a warrior, can adopt a stealthy approach using his bow for ranged attacks.
Ubisoft emphasizes a more tactical approach to stealth, encouraging us to adapt to situations using Naoe’s senses. This shift aims to deepen our engagement with the game’s stealth elements, offering a fresh experience within the franchise.
‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ promises to redefine stealth gameplay, blending traditional elements with innovative mechanics. As we await its release, these insights hint at an exciting evolution in the series.
