We know that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy is considered to be the zenith of mafia films. There have been other great titles such as Goodfellas, One Upon a Time in America, Scarface or Heat, but The Godfather trilogy (especially the first two movies) is something else. It is, without a doubt, peak cinema.
This trilogy set the scene for the story of the Corleone family, and while it was inspired by the books by Mario Puzo, the franchise is considered to be a faithful and accurate depiction of the life in mafia families, as well as the world of mafia in general.
Now, we can confirm that a new mafia-themed movie is on its way and it is going to be titled Corleone. The movie will begin production next year and we can also confirm that it has found its director. If you’re curious about the movie, keep reading our report!
The movie itself, as far as we understand, won’t have anything to do with the Corleone family from Puzo’s novels, but the title, rather, seems to be related to the Sicilian town of the same name, which also served as the inspiration for the family name in Puzo’s novel.
Corleone is actually notoriously known as the birthplace of a large number of famous Italian mobsters, so you can understand why the connection is so often exploited.
As Deadline reports exclusively, the story for the movie is written by Sandro Lorino, Rich Ronat, and Nate Adams, based on a story by Sandro Lorino and Antonio Lorino. The film will be set in the United States and in Italy and will, according to the synopsis we have, focus on a man with a mysterious past whose life suddenly turns into chaos as he ends up being chased in a twisted game with the first female boss of the famous Cosa Nostra.
Filming is set to begin in March 2025, while the film is being produced by Richard Salvatore (Stolen Girl), Nate Adams (Vanquish), and Sandro Lorino and Norbert Krott for Lorino Pictures. Executive producers include Fabio Costabile (Skincare) and Dirk Schweitzer (Operation Napoleon). Talking to Deadline, Salvatore said the following:
When Sandro presented us with this screenplay based on an unbelievable true story, it was an immediate yes. Corleone, Sicily, is world-famous thanks to The Godfather. The difference here is that Sandro and his father are actually from Corleone, lending the story a deeply personal and authentic foundation.

As for the director, we can confirm that Swedish director Amir Chamdin will helm this action-thriller. Best known for his work in the music industry, Chamdin won Best Series at the 2020 Canneseries market for his work on Partisan and is also known for his work on Börje. As for Corleone, here is what he said:
This film is not just a thrilling story but also a deeply personal one for its creators. Molded into a tense thriller in the vein of classic Lumet or Frankenheimer films, I knew right away that I had to make this movie. With this powerful non-stop page-turner of a script, it was an opportunity impossible to pass on.
