Tales of the Walking Dead Filming Location Explained
The Walking Dead franchise continues to expand with the introduction of a new series called Tales Of The Walking Dead, which is the fourth series from The Walking Dead. That said, like its parent series, Tales Of The Walking Dead follows the storyline of survivors just trying to get through the entire zombie apocalypse. But the difference here is that the storylines are not interconnected because Tales Of The Walking Dead is an anthology series that has a different story for every episode.
While Tales Of The Walking Dead may be an anthology series, the thing is that filmmakers would want to make sure that they actually minimize expenses, all while staying true to the heart of the franchise of The Walking Dead. That’s why the filming location of Tales Of The Walking Dead may be quite similar to its parent series. As such, let us look at the filming location of Tales Of The Walking Dead.
Was Tales Of The Walking Dead Filmed In The Same Location As The Walking Dead?
Ever since The Walking Dead premiered during the early part of the 2010s, it became a cultural sensation because of how it gave a new look at the zombie apocalypse genre by turning the theme into a huge series that follows a group of survivors just trying to make it through the hell that the world had already turned into. In that regard, the popularity of The Walking Dead allowed it to actually become one of the most-watched series on television over the last ten years.
The popularity of The Walking Dead also gave way to more spin-off shows in the overall universe of The Walking Dead as AMC was looking to bank on the popularity of the series, especially to those who have been following it since the very first season. One of the newer spin-offs that are also based in the same universe as The Walking Dead is Tales Of The Walking Dead.
But while Tales Of The Walking Dead is set in the same universe as The Walking Dead, the one thing that makes it different from the rest of the franchise is the fact that this series is actually an anthology. That means that every episode in this series is a different story, as we get to see different characters telling their stories every single episode. This gives a different look at The Walking Dead franchise, which has almost always followed the regular series format.
If you’ve already watched Tales Of The Walking Dead, one of the things you would notice is the fact that the episodes, although they aren’t connected to one another, seem to be quite similar to the parent series of The Walking Dead in the sense that the atmosphere and the places are quite similar. That’s because, yes, Tales Of The Walking Dead was also filmed in the same location as the original series, especially when you consider the fact that there are episodes that are connected to the parent series and the other spin-offs in the larger The Walking Dead franchise.
As such, you shouldn’t wonder if you do find the atmosphere and environment in some of the episodes of Tales Of The Walking Dead familiar, as we have already stated that both of these series were filmed in the same location.
Where Was Tales Of The Walking Dead Filmed?
As mentioned, Tales Of The Walking Dead was filmed in the same location as The Walking Dead, which was filmed in Georgia. The Walking Dead has become a tourist attraction for those who visit Georgia because the series was actually filmed in a lot of different locations in that state, especially in the Atlanta area. And it isn’t surprising that AMC decided to return to Atlanta, Georgia, to film Tales Of The Walking Dead.
Simply stated, Tales Of The Walking Dead was filmed almost entirely in the Atlanta metropolitan area in Georgia, as filming for the series began as early as January 2022 and was concluded in April of the same year. And the fact that Tales Of The Walking Dead is similar and connected to the larger The Walking Dead makes its environment and atmosphere so familiar.
Now, with that said, let’s look at the filming location of Tales Of The Walking Dead.
Atlanta Metropolitan Area, Georgia
As previously stated, Tales Of The Walking Dead was filmed almost entirely in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia, as there are some connections between the anthology series and the parent series, which is The Walking Dead. This filming location is the most densely populated area in Georgia, but that didn’t stop Tales Of The Walking Dead from telling good stories that are related to the bigger zombie apocalypse problem surrounding the entire The Walking Dead narrative.
At the start of the filming, the crew leased a property at 5711 Holiday Road, as the property is located on a small backroad just inside Buford. The crew closed down this area so that it could take photos without getting interrupted by the citizens of the area. Most of the scenes in season 1 of Tales Of The Walking Dead were shot here, as the crew needed to set up props that allowed them to mimic the same atmosphere they wanted to recreate. Throughout the entire time, Gwinnett County Police Department provided the security that the crew needed, all while providing directions for guests and citizens that may be around the area.
Moreover, the crew also filmed in the areas that are most popular in Atlanta, as the Jackson Street Bridge was one of the most iconic locations that served for Tales Of The Walking Dead. The crew also set up a camp in Stone Mountain Park, which is just close to Atlanta. This was where an unfortunate accident regarding a crew member occurred, but first responders were able to rescue her quickly and bring her to the hospital for some proper medical attention.
