Tencent’s new game, Light of Motiram, has raised eyebrows for its striking resemblance to Guerrilla’s Horizon series, with a touch of Palworld’s style. Set in a world dominated by massive mechanical creatures, players can explore vast landscapes, build bases, advance technology, train ‘Mechanimals’, and face formidable bosses.
The game’s description emphasizes starting from a primitive age and forging a new path of development.
The similarities to Horizon are hard to miss. One image shows humans in tribal attire using bows and spears against a creature reminiscent of Horizon’s Tremortusk. Another depicts mechanical beasts that closely resemble Horizon’s Chargers, albeit with slightly different horn shapes. Even the tribesfolk bear a striking resemblance to Horizon’s Utaru tribe.
These resemblances haven’t gone unnoticed. Industry analyst Serkan Toto commented, ‘I am colossally amused. There is no shame left.’ Eurogamer has reached out to Sony, Tencent, and Pocketpair for further comments on the announcement. Light of Motiram is slated for release on PC via Steam and Epic, though no specific date has been provided.
Interestingly, even the game’s music has been noted for its similarity to Horizon’s soundtrack. As for Guerrilla, the developer appears to be focusing on the Horizon series, moving away from its earlier Killzone games.
Art director Roy Postma mentioned that this shift was a conscious decision to move away from the darker and more violent themes of Killzone.
In summary, Light of Motiram’s announcement has sparked discussions due to its notable similarities to the Horizon series, leaving many curious about its future reception.
