The 10 Best Film Franchises of All Time, Ranked by Fans

The 10 Best Film Franchises of All Time, Ranked

Share:

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker, whose goal was to determine the best movie franchises of all time. The list includes more than 100 franchises, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten franchises from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.

Of course, since this is indeed an important list, we have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 franchises on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

Before we start, just a quick disclaimer – Ranker ranked The Avengers (5th) and Iron Man (11th) separately, but since they’re part of the MCU, which is also included on this list, we decided to treat them as part of the MCU, so we removed them from this list and listed the best-ranked non-MCU franchise that did not make the top 10, The Terminator franchise, which was ranked 12th.

10. The Terminator

Although this is more or less Arnie’s franchise, The Terminator franchise has evolved since its premiere and has become a pillar of science fiction. It is a truly beloved franchise, and while not every installment was great, it is certainly worth being considered as one of the best and most influential franchises of all time, without a doubt. We can, thus, only agree with this ranking.

9. Jurassic Park

When it first appeared, the Jurassic Park franchise was an enormous hit that pushed the boundaries of cinema with its realistic approach to a science fiction series. And while the Jurassic World franchise somewhat lowered the quality of the franchise as a whole, we agree that overall – especially because of its historical importance – Jurassic Park deserves to be on this list.

8. Star Wars

What Was Darth Vader's Rank in Star Wars?

Star Wars is one of the best and most important franchises of all time. Sure, the Sequel Trilogy lowered the standards, but overall, the franchise is still one of the best. This is why we absolutely don’t agree with the eighth place it gained, as we are absolutely certain that it deserves to be in the top three. The historical and cultural influence of Star Wars is such that we cannot agree with such a low ranking.

7. John Wick

When we’re doing a list of best franchises in which James Bond or Back to the Future don’t make it into the top ten, when John Wick, despite all of its qualities, doesn’t deserve to be here. Sure, the franchise managed to maintain a consistent level of quality throughout, and it is undoubtedly one of the best action franchises of all time, but there are simply much better ones that had to be on this list instead.

6. The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy is still the best comic book series of all time in terms of quality and artistic innovation. Nolan filled the trilogy with his unique directorial approach and created a series that will forever be remembered as one of the best of all time. All three movies are great, and we absolutely agree with their inclusion on this list.

5. Pirates of the Caribbean

And while the last couple of movies were horrible, Pirates of the Caribbean is still a great series and deserves to be on this list, although we’d rank it a bit lower personally. Johnny Depp’s charismatic performance is what pushed the franchise forward and he became the soul of the movies, which is why they are so beloved, despite a decrease in quality.

4. Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones is by far the most popular adventure franchise, and yes, we agree that it had to be on this list (despite the most recent movie…). The series has a certain historical weight and has been serving as a prototype for many adventure series that came after the first Indiana Jones premiered. Although we think that this ranking is too high, we definitely agree that it has to be on the list.

3. The Lord of the Rings

Where and Why Do Frodo and Gandalf Go at the End of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy?

Peter Jackson’s franchise started off as a trilogy and continued as another trilogy, and if you’re looking for a fantasy series that is absolutely amazing, you need not look further. The franchise won numerous awards and is lauded as one of the best ones ever, so we can only agree that it deserves to be here and that it deserves to be in the top three.

2. The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Avengers

The MCU became a phenomenon. It earned an enormous amount of money and became a part of pop culture in a way that no franchise did. But, as the year passed, the quality of these movies has been dropping significantly and the MCU is not even near the peak it achieved with the Infinity Saga. We agree that the franchise deserves to be in the top 10, but not in second place – it should be lower.

1. Harry Potter

We can fully understand why the beloved Harry Potter franchise is so loved by fans. It has influenced generations and Rowling’s magical world is something truly unique and special. Although the Fantastic Beasts movies did not live up to the hype, we still agree that the franchise does deserve to be in the top three best ones ever.
