Netflix has released the first teaser trailer and poster for the mysterious Korean SF series The Silent Sea (Goyo-eui bada). The title is a reference to the Sea of Tranquility, the right place on the Moon, the place where Apollo 11 first landed in 1969. The series itself is an adaptation of the 2014 short film The Sea of Tranquility written and directed by Choi Hang-yong, who is also the director of the series, while the screenwriter and showrunner is Park Eun-kyo (Crush and Blush, The Great Battle).
Abandoned lunar base. Mission with a survival rate of 10%. One by one, the crew members end up dead. Set on a future Earth that has gone through desertification, The Silent Sea is the story of members of an elite team sent to secure a mysterious specimen from an abandoned research facility on the Moon. Team members include astrobiologist Song Jian, team leader Han Yunjae, chief engineer Ryu Tae-suk, Dr. Hong Gayoung, security chief Gong Soohyuk and pilot Kim Sun.
Starring Bae Doon (Cloud Atlas, Kingdom), Gong Yoo (Train to Busan), Lee Joon (Mr. Baek), Heo Sung-tae (Squid Game), Kim Sun-young, Lee Mu-saeng and Lee Sung- wook.
The Silent Sea with all eight episodes on Netflix arrives as early as December 24th. Could it be the next most-watched Korean TV show on Netflix, after Squid Game and Hellbound, we will have to wait another month to find out.
